I just recently moved out of my 600 sq ft. studio at Cobbler Square after 2 years. The neighborhood and location are great and you definitely pay for that in the high rents. Visually, the building has a very warm feel and cool look as it once a Dr. Scholls Factory. It still maintains a lot of that old charm with the exposed brick and beam in many of the units and common areas. However, the building was converted to lofts in the 1980's, and has really left a lot to be desired. It feels like the walls are as thin as sheets because you can hear EVERYTHING from the apartments around you, especially if you have a brick and wood beam loft like I did. I could hear my neighbors having sex, using the bathroom, watching TV, etc. I had neighbors that woke me up with their music or conversations. Whether I liked it or not, I knew exactly what everyone around me was doing at the exact moment they were doing it. I tried to complain to them, but things never really changed. And I'm sure they heard the same kinds of things from me, unfortunately. So in terms of privacy at Cobbler Square, there's basically none.
The rents are high, but I suggest looking at a down time like the winter when they are running deals to try and fill the vacancent apartments. I have seen about 5 different apartments in the building and none are the same. They have different lay outs, sizes, and construction which adds some charm. There are some newer builings which don't have brick or beam and instead have all drywalls. I have heard these apartments may be slightly quieter, but never experienced that myself.
The management is friendly and the maintenace staff is timely as I did once have to page them at 1 am to fix my flooded bathroom.
The residents vary, but mostly lots of young professionals in their 20's- 30's. I happen to have the LOUDEST neighbors that exist (I am convinced) and who didn't really care if I heard all of their sexcapades or intimate conversations even after I complained.
As much as I liked the location and convenience to everything, the lack of privacy and insane amount of NOISE made it difficult to live there. In the last few months, it became very frusterating and I was happy to move.

Cobbler Square is a great loft building and I enjoy living here for the past year plus. I recommend Cobbler Square and Old Town on Wells Street is fabulous!

If you are having problems with noise from your neighbors, call the fronk desk. They are the most responsive people I've met. A couple of years ago, my neighbor downstairs would play loud music (or have noisy parties) in the middle of the night. Front desk responded immediately. It's not the management that's the problem. It's the inconsiderate idiots who think they are still living in college dorms. They did not renew his lease.
