This is probably the longest I've lived in one place. It's a great location (plenty of public transportation; plenty of cabs right outside the door; 2 miles from downtown--short enough to walk to work in nice weather; no problems with food or grocery delivery, except sometimes the delivery people get lost once they're inside; plenty of restaurants, and very few of them chain or fast food, within walking distance; walking distance to Michigan Avenue; several grocery stores within walking distance to choose from; garage receives all packages, so you don't have to be home for packages that require signatures). Rent is higher than in Lincoln Park or Lakeview, but you are paying for the location. Unfortunately, a few blocks away are less desirable neighborhoods (nothing much management can do, except relocate the entire building). It can get rather noisy during street festivals, and that seems to be when there are more problems, with so many people up and down Wells Street and plenty of alcohol. I live across from the school, and in the summer they sometimes have "movies in the park" on Saturday evenings (the soundtrack can be rather loud). On the other hand, because I overlook the park instead of the school building, I have a clear view of Sears Tower except when it's foggy. All this is part of the charm and annoyance of living in the neighborhood. The drywalls are a bit thin, but it's drywall. It's up to the tenants to be considerate of their neighbors. Once in a while, you'll get some recent college grads who think they'll still living in college dorms. One potential tenant showed up with his parents! One guy below me used to play loud music or have parties late into the middle of the night, even during the week. I have to say he was not very considerate even after several complaints. Management logs all complaints, both to the office and if the police shows up, so they know if there is a problematic tenant. I'm happy to say they didn't renew his lease. Management and maintenance are very responsive to complaints, and front desk staff is always very friendly. It helps to get to know them and make sure they know you by name. Parking can be a problem if you don't want to pay for monthly parking, but you just have to know where the free parking spaces are.

Most people who have nice things to say focus on the location. Yes, the location is wonderful. However you can find other places in Old Town. It's noisy because the walls are not well insulated. I disagree with the statement that management logs the police showing up. I've had the fire department at my place twice (first for strong gas smells and second becuase of high levels of carbon monoxide) and the office didn't call me the first time, and the second time I had to call them to investigate the problem.
