a very rundown shell of what it used to be

I moved out last year because of how bad it got. I lived in LM from college through my medical residency and loved it my first few years there. That changed a few years back when the LM management got very lax in their screening process and began to let just about anyone move in. They took in a lot of people relocating from the nearby CHA projects through the section 8 program and LM began to resemble a slum. A lot of middle-class professional people who used to live in LM began to move out at that point. I began to notice trash in the hallways and elevators, things spilled in lobby, and even junk mail that people would just toss on the floor in the lobby. Talk about uncivilized! The management did absolutely nothing to discourgage this and it became embarassing for me to even have company over. There are now also lots of students in LM (I was one of the few when I first moved in) and it is very transient because of this. LM management's focus is now on tearing down this aging apartment complex, so they aren't making any improvements in the apartments or working to correct the other problems that exist.

I have to say, I do like my apartment. I live here as a professional also, They have fixed up the hallways. The maintenance staff is lazy which makes the lobby/hallways look worse than they should. I do like living here, although my children are ready to move back to rural Michigan. The buildings needs tearing down because they are outdated. I do agree, that for a while, CHA people were moving in and causing the place to go down. I had to complaint to management and the rental office. All in all, so far so good. When we leave here, we are leaving Chicago (black folks too nasty and crazy for us;) to return to rural Michigan. By the by readers, I am a black person, so do not play the racist card with me. I am stating my opinions as to why we will soon leave Chicago. To repeat, in general, we do like LM and most of our neighbors. The neighborhood is beautiful however.!!! I am sorry you had such a bad experience. I agree your former building does look shabby from the outside. I can imagine the inside!
