Filthy Lobby Rug, Filthy Hallway Carpet and Dirty, Ugly Elevators at Lake GHETTOS

Unless you want to come home every night to see the dirty Lake Meadows lobby rug that looks like it has never been cleaned at Lake Ghettos, aka Lake Meadows, then don't move here.
And when you come through the door to the elevators, you will be greeted by the filthy, huge slick greasy, black carpet stains in the hallway by the elvators.
The carpet in the elevators is dirty and even a regular vacuuming would be an improvement but it wouldn't be called Lake Ghettos if it was clean now would it.
The elevators look old and shabby--not not shabby-chic!--and are a pink and maroon color that matches nothing in the building whatsoever.
Apparently the elevators have never been remodeled since they were installed in the 1950's.
But the lack of decent looking elevators is nothing compared to the filthy, heinously dirty carpet that tenants endure looking at every time they step in and out of the elevator and/or the building until Lake Ghettos replaces the carpet.
If and when it is replaced, what a shame, Lake Meadows seems to ensure that the carpet will never be cleaned as needed! So year after year tenants deal with maybe 2 weeks of a nice lobby and hallway carpet and rest of the year--filth.
Why Lake Ghettos, will not employ a carpet cleaning service on a regular basis to do what maintenance is not scheduled to do is really a shame.
When the management sends memos around saying they are concerned and about how they "are glad you chose Lake Meadows for your home" they should keep it real and say they are glad to find tenants who put up with the filthy and embarrassing carpet that no one would want to claim to be in their so-called home.
Lake Meadows Management and Draper and Kramer must laugh all the way to the bank since they can charge tenants to look at the filthy carpet in the lobby, hallway and elevators day in and day out.
Lake Meadows/Draper and Kramer should be ashamed of themselves but apparently tenants can only cling to the hope to move as soon as possible since all complaints fall on the blind eyes, deaf ears and unconscious-conscience of Lake Meadows/Draper and Kramer.
To be fair, once you get in your apartment, if you have dealt with and constantly deal with the many repair issues you are sure to have to deal with, then you will be okay.
But what a bummer about the lobby, hallway and elevator carpet.
Your guests will think you are living straight-ghetto too when they see it! Too bad they won't clean a carpet as often as they cut the grass around here.

Lo and behold, a few days afer this was posted, they announce that they will be cleaning the nasty hallway carpet. Sad that the only way to get them to do any maintainence and upkeep of the property is to post the problems on here.

In the 555 building, they covered up the white brick walls in the lobby with drywall and painted it dark colors. This makes the small lobby look TINY. Instead of looking "updated," the lobby now looks DATED. Way to go Lake Meadows, another screwup at our expense.

I agree that the lobby actually looks worse. Who came up with the idea of drywall over the brick and dark roach-like colors? Plus, the ledge that used to be underneath the directory tenant module, where a person could rest a bag or package while checking mail, etc., that ledge was torn out of the wall without adding back a modern ledge or any sort of alternative one might expect from the so-called lobby "upgrade." Now a bag or package must be set down on the dirty lobby floor--so a roach will crawl in??? And you probably won't notice it, if and when, since the roach-like colors and dirty stained carpet that looks like it has not been cleaned since Christmas is perfect camouflage! Did tenants have the nerve to think carpets whould be cleaned again by Easter too? Even if Jesus Christ rises from the dead on an Easter Sunday, Lake Ghettos tenants and their guests would still have to look at nasty runners and carpet as usual even on any given Easter Sunday, now or then, nothing is different in 2010, this Mother's Day and any other day until Lake Ghettos management feels like it should do otherwise. Lake Meadows/Draper & Kramer apparently want their tenants to live as GHETTO as possible and that is something Lake Meadows/Draper & Kramer really know how to make happen!

Actually, I just noticed carpets are cleaner today! I do not want to lie on anybody. I know for sure carpets were really dirty for Easter and very close to Mother's Day. I did not notice when--perhaps the carpet by elevators in particular was cleaned just before M-D or just after? Maybe things are getting slightly better, and if so, it has been a long time coming, however, still appreciated. Lobby walls are mostly beige (could I have been wrong?--looked darker at first)...although there is the weird rust color above...outside gray...whatever. Will accept all improvments in good faith and no doubt experience the obvious whatever that might be.

hey everyone :) I am so glad i came across this review site! My bf and I are looking at places to live around the IIT area as he will be going to school there in the fall. I am so surprised by the reviews on here esp. because of the what seems to be AMAZING photos on this website.
Off topic though, I would like some advice to all you living here.. How is the neighborhood? I have heard mixed reviews and was not quite sure. I am more interested in safety and the crime rate rather then anything else. Any imput would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

The area is not the best. You have these buildings which are okay but then right across cottage grove you have the project like buildings. The Jewels has the rudest workers and it is so jam packed at the beginning of the month due to food stamps that there is no need to even go in. The security here is lacking in common sense and just drive around with the radio up or playing on their phone. you can find somewhere better.
