One thing after another

This place would be an absolute nightmare for any small business owner who works out of the home. I run an internet based business and my cable internet kept dying repeatedly and when I would call they would tell me to call RCN. Then RCN would tell me the building has faulty wiring and to consult the building management. I talked to them a few times with no luck so I went to higher management a few months later when my lease was about to expire. The problem had been pretty consistent cutting out for over a week per month. I had lost 1000?s of dollars and had upset many of my clients and wasted money on advertising.

When I approached higher management, I was told **** would call be back as soon as she was out of her meeting. The hours were going by and I had no phone call so I figured I would run down and see what?s up. I had a big smile on my face and I was looking forward to a pleasant conversation. I was told to wait in the waiting room and I sat down in the corner seat? A very angry looking lady walked out of the door shortly after and didn?t even give me a chance to greet her talk before she had her hands on her hips and was standing about a foot over me leaning down and glaring. She proceeded to act unbelievably condescending she was looking down on me like I was the most horrible, vile creature she had ever laid her eyes on. I was a little bit startled and before I could say hello she starts talking very aggressively and she looks like she?s almost shaking. At first I thought she was really stressed out but this wasn?t the case. She proceeded to ask/yell questions and every time I started to answer she would cut me off before I could get to the third word in the sentence. After about 3 cut off sentences and me being completely in shock she says, ?you obviously don?t want to work with ME? and she storms back into her office slamming the door behind her. I have to sit down and catch my breath... I am holding back tears, I can?t even express her mannerisms and the way she was treating me because I have never ever been treated this way by anyone before? and trust me, I worked in customer service; I have dealt with lots of nasty people! She calls down her co-worker and I have to admit that I was really relieved, I figured that there was no way she would ever treat anyone like that in front of a co-worker? it would be far to embarrassing! I was WRONG, now she is doing the same thing as before tenfold but CHUCKLING as she does it! I am now on the verge of tears? so I asked her if I could have a chance to speak (I didn?t even say three sentences the whole time, she just exploded on me) because I was feeling very intimidated and she just looked down and me, very condescending? tears started rolling down my face and she then said ?YOU DEAL WITH HER? to her co-worker who didn?t at all seem phased? and threw my folder (with my lease information) at her and yet again stormed out of the waiting room and slammed the door. Her co-worker didn?t really go over anything new and pretty much said the same thing she had earlier? My concern was, If the internet doesn?t work, I can?t work and if I can?t work then I can?t pay rent? so I was very reluctant to sign the lease. I was really hoping to get to chat with the management for peace of mind more than anything. I was ready to sign a 6-12 month lease but instead I will be moving out in 2 months.

Here are some other things that aren?t a huge deal to me but are worth noting. The doormen are really nice, but that?s about the only good thing in this apartment besides the views from the higher floors. It took forever to move in, everything is rather unorganized.
The swimming pool isn?t open very late and is often shut down when the lifeguard decides to take off early? the hot tub was broken for a few weeks this summer.

The water in my apartment (yes sink, bath, toilet) only worked off and on for a whole month out of the 3 months that we have lived here. When I did get water the hot water didn?t work at all 90% of the time. When I called maintenance I was pretty much told since no one else is having the problem it must not exist. A month later it was fixed and there was a notice they were fixing it on ?X? amount of floors so I was obviously not the only one having this problem.

I have seen a handful of cops and social workers because of the 20% section 8 population and a fair share of people who look like they are completely whacked on hard drugs. I have stumbled across the lower floors a few times and they are just plain scary. The elevators work about ? of the time but you usually have to wait a while for one to come around to your floor. The service elevator wasn?t working when we moved in and when they fixed it the maintenance man decided to use it so we had to bring most of our stuff up the normal elevators?

Another business problem is the laundry counter deals with all mail packages that are delivered and they close at 6:30 on weekdays which is really inconvenient if you pay for overnight shipping and can?t get back to the house before 6 because no one can get your package until they open the next day. On some occasions they ?lost? my mail only for it to show up a few days later after I had already repurchased the item that apparently never showed up. (I always get track and confirm, the package was in the building).

Overall I guess this building would be pretty good to live in if you were getting it for a very discounted rate via section 8 housing vouchers or perhaps don?t mind any of the above.

RCN lost my business at LSP, because of similar problems. I cancelled RCN and now have DSL through SBC with no problems at all.
