Complete Dump - DO NOT RENT HERE

I expect much better from this dump for what I'm paying. This place is a nightmare.

The first problem is with the elevators. There are 4, but it is very rare that more than two are working. You will literally spend HOURS waiting for elevators here. When they finally come, they will be so crowded that you can't even fit inside. Trips from upper floors seem to take forever.

Secondly, the parking is horrible. I pay over $200 a month for a garage spot that frequently has someone else parked in it, usually someone from the commercial floors. Many times it is the same person. The doorman will not do anything about it either, he just tells you to park in another spot, and he keeps letting non-paying cars in to the garage. In addition, there are no walls on the garage, so your car will constantly be filthy. $200 a month seems awfully steep for a place like this.

Now for the section 8's. The other reviewers were right, they will not tell you about this when you meet with the leasing agents. This will annoy you at first because they do not pay the same amount to live here (around $200 a month or so), but at this point it is unbearable. This isn't a place where I would want a single girl to live - it's dangerous. I am a 30 year old 6' tall male, and I have been harassed numerous times in the elevator and the lobby. One time someone even begged me for money on the elevator. Pathetic to say the least. Some of the crackheads smell so bad that it makes you want to throw up on the elevator. It's like living in a halfway house. The section 8's definitely run this building. It used to be that the first 12 floors were for section 8's, but they seem to be moving upward all the time. Now I'd say they're on the first 20 or so.

The club level/pool is a joke, it's constantly filled with Section 8 ghetto kids causing trouble. There is graffiti in the hallways, and it always smells bad. You can't use the sundeck because the section 8's are always having a jam outside. The music is usually so loud that you can't even talk to a person next to you.

Dogs are not allowed, but I'd say that about 10% of the residents have them. The management office figured this out and sent a letter to everybody, but that's where it stopped. The doorman lets people in with dogs all the time. They will not do anything about this.

The apartments themselves are awful - painfully small and laid out very poorly. I have a 2-bedroom, and one of my bathrooms is split into 2 rooms - one for toilet & sink, one for shower. This design is horribly inefficient, and it takes away a ton of space from my room.

The 'free basic cable' that's offered is horrible, and it only works about 40% of the time. RCN is another option, but they will rip you off terribly. There was a time when my cable/phone/internet cost over $160 a month. I know it has nothing to do with the apartment itself, but it's the only option you really have. The other bills aren't bad, everything runs on electric. Expect about $50 a month for that.

They will raise the rent on you when you renew your lease. Nice to know that the Section 8's can still afford to live here, even though I am having trouble.

As for the people, Simona is very nice, I feel bad that she's involved with a place like this. The maintenance guys & the doormen are very nice & courteous. The leasing agents leave much to be desired. They are quite dishonest about the building. Patty is a complete -----, stay away from her.

In summary, this is the worst apartment I've ever had. It reminds me of a bad day in the dorms. The neighborhood is great, but that's all you're getting - everything else is a complete rip-off.

I stupidly re-signed a lease for another year, just because I didn't want to move again. That was 3 months ago, and now I want out of the lease immediately.

DO NOT RENT HERE!!! IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO LIVE IN STREETERVILLE TRY 420 E. OHIO OR MCCLURG COURT INSTEAD!!!!!

Update - 13 of my neighbors and I were just in an elevator that dropped from the 22nd floor all the way to about 3 feet below where it was supposed to stop in the basement, where we were stuck for about 30 minutes. Maintenance did nothing - we had to pry the doors open from the inside.

A formal complaint has now been registered with the City.

I saw people being pulled out of that elevator. I'd also like to lodge a complaint with the City. Can you tell me where to do that?
