Streeterville slum!

First of all, yes this building is in a fantastic location.
Which is why it's so shocking to find after you move in that you're sharing a building with panhandlers, beggars and junkies. On one occasion I shared an elevator with a woman who looked like she stepped straight out of a movie about heroin junkies on the streets of New York; who told me all about how she was basically squatting with a couple of male tenants in return for personal services. Totally unacceptable!!!
Apparently management thinks that the location alone is worth $1200 , because there's really nothing else to recommend this building at that price. Facilities are adequate, and the pool is great - when everything is working that is. The hot tub was broken all of last year. Maintenance leaves a lot to be desired.
General standards of cleanliness in the building are pretty poor; if you're the kind of person who can't tolerate bad smells in the hallways and your neighbor's various smoking and cooking odors coming up through the vents, stay away from LSP!

The above post is ABSOLUTELY true. It's called Section 8 Housing, and LSP has plenty of it. I know. I lived there for three years. Just call Jack or Patty (if either one actually still "works" there) and ask them. They will tell you that they renewed the Section 8 contract for twenty years. These are the facts, and I assure you that those tenants don't have income checked. I also had a man ask me one time if I was going to eat the food that I was holding. That is as close as I came to panhandling, but that was too close for me. I was not paying $1,200 to have people hit me up for food in the elevator. The person responding to the ACCURATE description of LSP is either an LSP employee or someone that has been in the building for 2 days. Period.

unfortunately it is true. I have lived here for 2 years and I see the same woman panhandling on the streets daily and then I share an elevator with her. She must have a nice rent break compared to the rest of us (note the sarcasim). Anyway, there are some shady people but it has gotten better. Personally I think the building is well maintained, super location, great doormen, good units...but the Section 8 takes away from it. Anytime you mix totally different types of people there will be friction. In a perfect world everyone would blend but this is reality. I can't justify living in a building and paying $1200 a month to live among homeless people. I am moving in a month for the simple fact I am embarrassed to bring anyone home to my place.

Instead of being grossed out by people who are different than you, maybe you should be proud that LSP is actually one of the buildings downtown that is willing to let people who are less advantaged than the rest of you yuppies to live in a nice neighborhood and enjoy the pleasures the rest of you get to enjoy. I am a young, petite woman who lives in LSP and never have I felt unsafe or uncomfortable by the people I ride the elevators with. There will be strange people you don't get along with wherever you go--that is the reality of the human race. And for those of you who are leaving just to get away from "homeless" people, good riddance. You complain about heroine addicts in the elevator (of which I have never seen), but how many yuppies who live in these "respectable" buildings have coke habits or go out all weekend and get hammered. It's so easy to pass judgement, isn't it.

The lower the floor, the crazier the experience you will get! Stay high if you stay at all!
