i've lived here for a little while and although i love the layout and the urban feel of the apartment i HATE the manager...and for that reason i wouldn't recommend living here.... he is what makes this place truly horrible.

Why should anyone care if you hate the manager? You didn't even say why you hate him. The only facts you did give are that the loft and the neighborhood are good.
If you're looking for a place to live - remember this: What other apartment (not condo) building in Chicago has former tenants come back for the parties the landlords throw on the rooftop deck? This is a great place to live at a reasonable price.

What a joke! I've lived at this building for almost five years and think that the entire management staff is one of the best I have experienced. I am a regional property manager and choose to live here, and I wish I could get my managers to run their facilities like these people do. This sounds an awful lot like someone who is a deadbeat or got caught doing something they were not supposed to, because I know the type first hand. In a field that has a lot of turnover, Marc and his staff have been here longer than me, so they must be doing something right.
As I am in the business, overseeing more than 3000 rental units, I think Marc is one of the best Building Managers I have ever come across. It was just last week I overheard a couple of the female tenants in the laundry room talking about how he always looks out for them, so I'd have to believe that this person has a personal issue and is trying to blackball him. Doesn't sound so horrible to me.
I heard an abnoxious lady complaining in the lobby a couple nights ago that she hated the manager because he wouldn't let her move out at a certain time without having to pay for it. I wonder if this is the same person who wrote this. Well, if it is, I have news for you. All my building charge $400-600 move-in fees and Lake Street charges nothing. And yes, at last year's roof deck party I met two people who USED to live here. What building invites it's FORMER tenants to activities? Try none.
I understand people have disagreements, but I think it would have shown more class to bring it to him personally instead of writing some anonymous message.
