Has its pros and cons.

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009

I have lived in this building for over two years, in two different apartments. The main reason that I stayed here is the location, and the washer/dryer. Easily accessible to pretty much everything. I have lived in two different floor plans, so I can comment on both. I'll just make a list of the pros and cons.
Pros:
-Rent is pretty reasonable. I've lived in a one bedroom on a lower floor and now a two bedroom on a middle floor. Rent only went up three hundred dollars.
-Washer and dryer in every apartment.
-Kitchens are nice. Granite, and stainless steel/black appliances. Not really large. No counter space. So if you like to cook a lot, these won't be the most appealing to you.
-Building is very secure, and the concierge really watches closely who comes in, they are very friendly, and always help you out.
-A lot of amenities here, I don't really use them, but they are here and included in the rent. Gym, resistance pool, hot tub, media room, party room, etc.
-Location, location, location.
-Views are pretty good too. Depending on where you are.
-Maintenance is very quick to fix any problems you may have.
Cons:
-Trains, Trains, Trains, Trains, Trains, Trains, Trains. Although eventually you do get kind of used to them, they are still really annoying. The L train is far enough away that it is not really that bothersome. But, the building is totally surrounded by Metra/amtrak trains. They run from about 5 a.m. - 1:30 a.m. The leasing staff will tell you that "once you get your furniture in here, you won't hear them anymore" That is a total lie. You will hear them all of the time. In the winter when you have to open your windows, due to the excessive heat in the building, you will really want to pull your hair out from the loudness of the trains. I think you get my point here about the trains.
-One of the original selling factor for me here was the fact that all of the utilites are included in the rent. That isn't completely true. You do have to pay an electric bill. Also, the only choice in TV service is dish network provided by AT&T. It is horrible, the channel line up is very slim, and seems to diminish every day. It constantly goes out and has to be unplugged to reset the box. This alone is very annoying, since I have DVR set to record shows, and all that records is the dish network screen. The internet is very, very slow. I have talked to management about this, but it has never been fixed.
-Carpet is very bad, no padding.
-Depending on which unit, you may have a walk in closet, or you may have almost no closet space.
-Besides the kitchen, everything in the apartment is builders grade. Don't expect anything luxurious. Everything is well kept, just not the highest quality.
-Heat/AC is stated as self controlled, but in the winter it gets quite warm in the apartments and you do not have the option to turn on cooler air. You are stuck opening the windows. Which in turn, you are not able to hear your TV due to the trains.
Write me with any questions.

I'm wondering what floors you have lived on? I am considering moving in, but am very concerned about the trains; do you know if the noise gets better on the upper floors - like above 30th? Did u notice an improvement when you moved from the lower to middle floor? How is the sound insulation for between units? ie. Can you hear your neighbors talking/snoring/arguing, etc? Would you consider it a convenient location for someone without a car? Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

The trains are INSANELY loud on all floors. I moved out entirely because of the noise. The agents lie to you and say you'll "get used to it". After 12 months, I still couldn't get any work done, or enjoy a movie, or take important calls in my own apartment and needed to spend most of my time at my girlfriend??s because of the noise.

I actually toured the property recently, and the leasing agent, my partner and I were in an apartment on a semi-lower floor and heard the trains going by. It honestly wasn't that loud, more like a very dull roar.

I have lived here for almost a year. The trains suck, but that is the only thing i dont like. Its a great location, nice building, nice staff. You are going to hear the trains pretty much anywhere you live in the area. I would recommend it if you are not super sensative to noise, but i dont even notice them anymore.
