I have lived here for 4 years because I am a Northwestern University student and it is close to the school and the hospital. I stayed because it is such a pain to move to a new apartment, however, I know from seeing places that my friends live that there are better and less expensive places to live in the same area. I also think that the amenities that are available at other buildings in the area are far better that what is available at McClurg. I agree with some of the other reviewers, the new management is definitely harder to work with and my rent has increased considerably each year since the new company took over. My other two big complaints are noise and heating. First the walls are thin, so if you end up with neighbors that are up late or enjoy socializing while you are trying to sleep it can get annoying. Second, heating is central so when it switches from cooling to heating in the fall and then back again in the spring it can get annoying as well. This is mostly because the heat will be on in the spring when it is warming up outside and you can't cool down your apt, or the heat will have switched on in the fall yet there are still warm days and again you can't cool your apt. The main areas of the building are also kept too warm in the winter time which I think contributes to high electricity bills in these months. I wouldn't recommend this building... I definitely think that you can do better for the price.
