Dishonest Management

I moved into this building August of last year. About a month or a month and a half later, the management informed all tenants that we would be kicked out of our units for a sprinkler installation project. The project was an extreme inconvenience involving about a month of incessant noise while the units around me were being done, and a week where I was required to move all of my furniture and was kicked out of my unit. The workers left dust all over my things.
I was never informed that this project would take place before I moved in, and it was such a large-scale project that the planning would mean that they knew about it and did not tell me. I would have lived somewhere else had I known. The only compensation they ever offered was a $20 gift card to the grocery store. I knew students in the building who had to deal with this during finals.
Finally, when I moved out of the building, they tried to charge me over $400 and would not give me my security deposit back even though I left the unit in pristine condition and have five friends who helped me move out who would attest that it was in as good of shape as when I moved in.
