First off, I have lived in cities across the globe in everything from huts to penthouses (no joke). I'm a doctor who is now attending law school. PT suffers from three major problems: The Staff, the residents, the price. The staff will surely try to screw you on your security deposit. I know of at least 3 ocassions where this has happened. They will always replace the carpet when a new resident moves in and charge the old resident. Always. Yet, if you stay there for another year, they don't replace your carpet or offer any retention incentive for good tenents. Illogical to say the least. There is high turnover and they don't care if you stay or not.
PT is a voucher funded location. This means ghetto fabulous residents who drink, fight, bring drugs and their friends into PT on a regular basis. Sexual harassment and catcalls are common on weekend evenings. Any sense of decorum is lost on the FUBU crowd. Police calls are de-regure. It's also pumped full of UIC students who do the same (vandalize the halls, throw raucous parties). I have lived myself in public housing growing up. I never expected such a high standard of living and would not abuse it if given to me. P.S. My father is black, and I grew up in Kenya, so don't call me a racist. I guess 1k a month isn't enough to keep the ghetto crowd away...
1k a month. Enough said, for a studio.
Also, communications are shoddy here. Cell phones are blacked out and internet service is limited to RCN (rip-off central) and a well intentioned by problem plauged SBC.
In all fairness the location is nice if you attend school downtown or work downtown. But forget accesibility to anything on weekends. And with $2 CTA fares, taking the subway gets expensive. My advice:
Try lincoln park, wicker park, over PT if you're not into gansta rap.

Wow are you a moron. First off I live in a studio and it is not 1K a month. Yes the rents are high but come on, this is Chicago. Go find a building with the same amenities for the same price. As far as cell phone blacking out, its a high rise building located in the loop with many other high rise buildings, sack up and get a land line if it's too much. My carpeting, while clean, was definitely not new when I moved in last year. The location is great, the amenities are great and the staff is pretty good as well. sure they can't give you everything you want, but any reasonable request/suggestion has been met. I will agree with your comments about the students but when you live in a place this big you're going to see every kind of person out there.

I agree 100% with this users comments. PT is ghetto and the reason it's so expensive is that cost is being passed to those who CAN afford to live there. Th Section 8 and student housing lives on probably no more than $200/mo rent so someone has to buck-up. Yes, studios are now $1k/mo

If it helps I'm moving into PT this Sat. and run a marketing firm so I can help restore that lack of class you say there is, I don't see it, being from Fort Lauderdale this is the best in the West Loop I've come across so far, I don't think these opinions were carefully thought out, but if it's as bad as you guys say I'll just have to find out first hand. Cheers!

Why are you complaining and making personal attacks on the residents. You live in an urban community type setting. If you want your upscale burgueois tennants then move to another location. P.S.it appears that growing up in Kenya would make you somewhat greatful to live in a place that offers so many choies and freedom for all to live wherever they choose. Grow UP or move back to Kenya JackA.

I'm a student living here and my low rent is not driving everyone else's rent up. Yes, my low rent of $800/mo for a studio THAT I HAVE TO SHARE with someone else ALSO paying $800/mo. We are getting cheated out of our money, not you. Also, I am not ghetto.
