I moved in last July and was initially attracted to PT of its great location and affordability.
After moving in, I soon discovered many problems. 1) The staff working at PT are not very helpful and a lot of times are very rude. Many are simply not respectful.
2) I haven't had much problem with the mail handling system here. But I do find it to be a hassle sometimes to pick up my package, because the mail center closes at 7PM and a lot of times I work late and miss the 7 oclock closing time.
3) People talking in the hallways are loud and inconsiderate. I suspect some units on my floor have more than the "allowed" number of tenents. Like one unit on my floor has more than 4 people living in there when it's a smaller studio than mine. I have the biggest studio floor plan in the building and I find it very nice and spacious but I can't imagine having to share my studio with 3 or 4 other guys. How is that possible' Well, people do it here at PT. It would not be a problem if these guys were considerate and talk softly or even just talk in their own apts. Rather, they like to talk outside and at any hours in the day. One Saturday morning around 10am, I was trying to sleep in late after a long week in the office but was woken up by someone talking in the hallway. I was upset and told the guy to be considerate. The activity stopped for 1 day and quickly resumed.
4) The ventilation is controlled by management, which means although there is a temperature control unit in each apartment, the AC or Heat is not going to be turned on if the management doesn't turn it on. This can become extremely uncomfortable at night and cold in the apartment when temperature drops and the heat setting is turned off by the management or vice versa.
5) Lastly but definitely not least and probably the most important reason why I'm not renewing my contract. The bed bug problem is very much alive here at PT. I was so close to renew my contract, but I am so glad that I didn't. You might be thinking why I was so close to renew my contract - well to me, a little discomfort is manageable especially with the long commute I save. I thought that was just the price of doing the business but little did I know that I would experience discomfort to another level. I don't know how the bed bugs got to my apartment but I've seen them and been bitten by them many nights now. I had to throw away many furniture and throw out many clothes because of this. Trust me, it's not a problem you ever want to deal with.
I feel so strongly that I should inform this problem to any prospective tenents that are looking into PT. Make sure you check the history of the unit you are moving into or simply avoid this place all together. Why deal with the aftermath when you could avoid it in the first place. When I signed my contract, I didn't do enough due diligence. If I had known about the bed bug problems, I would not have moved in regardless of the affordability and location advantage I mentioned above.
Good luck finding a decent apartment now that you have been forewarned!!

Did you totally ignore the 8 million notices they send up to your apt? I know the old mgt would send up countless amounts of letters when I came close to renewal time. If you didn't read those, sorry bud, it's your own fault. But as far as the main review goes, dead on for the most part. The temperature control stuff is somewhat wrong though. Most older buildings don't have HVAC systems that can provide heat and AC at the same time, so theres city regulations as far as how long they have to provide heat and AC. It takes a day or 2 to switch the systems over and with chicago weather being what it is, it's tough to guage the right time to make the switch.

Thanks for warning us of potential bed bugs. I will never look at those buildings in the same way again.

Which unit were you in?
Also, who do I talk to about the history of a unit??? It seems my leasing agent is clueless.

Listen Bud, before you use such strong words, why dont' you try living w/ bed bugs for a few weeks and have bites all over your body and then come back and try writing the same thing as you did. Oh, since you worked there, I am sure you were aware of the various lawsuits against the Presidential Towers management about bed bugs.

I used to work for a property managment company years ago and can tell you that this is a common problem in any community where a large number of people live. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with the building or the managment. It is the resident who brings the bugs into the apartment. In most cases it is caused from the resident traveling to a foreign country and returning with the bugs in their luggage contents and in turn unknowingly infesting their own living space. It is very easy to point fingers at the management company but you should take a step back and a good look at yourself before placing blame.
Also, I still have many friends in the property management industry and know that they are held (at least in the city of Chicago) to strict stantards that must be followed by most standard lease agreements with these types of situations. So they would not be able to simply ignore the residents request. They are not easy to get rid of and the resident must follow strict rules if they are dedicated to truly getting rid of the bed bugs.

I would suggest that you tell everyone you know to complain to the Waterton main corporate offices:

I am in Tower 3 and I completely approve this problem of bed bugs. Infact today is Nov 8th., 2008 and they are in my bed room. I reported this issue to the mgmt office yesterday but no action was taken. They called me saying that nothing can be done till Monday. I am panicked, shocked and distressed. I needed a solid reason to move out of PT and now I got. People don't consider staying in this place at all. It is totally BED BUG infested. Once I move out I will provide my Apt No. too. Btw, my bed was brand new from Sears and now I have to replace it.
PT does not compensate for this in any way. PT sucks BIG TIME.
