Sandburg Village has been Condo since 1979. Units are rented through the unit owner an not any of the building management offices. The building managers manage each condo association and not the actual condo units.
Sandburg Village was built between 1961 and 1972 comprising of many townhomes, 8 high-rises and 1 mid-rise. To this day it holds the record for the most units in a single condo-conversion from apartments.
Sandburg Village was never built as low-income housing as some suggest. It was built as an urban renewal project to bolster the land between Chicago's Gold Coast and the Public Housing projects one mile to the west.
The buildings are built very well using methods that are common today...40 years later. There are many buildings in Chicago that resemble the "typical" Sandburg design as the apartments are very well planned with generous room sizes that inclusing separate dining space the most people convert to office or dens these days.
I rented in Sandburg for 1 year in the late 80's and have been a resident/owner since. Parking: Where else in the Gold Coast can you park your car in a heated garage for a bit more than $100 per month' Sandburg Village has the best parking rates in the city...let along the area.
With many of the units being renovated, you will find many different looking apartments in many levels of modernization.
Sandburg Village is one of the most cost effective areas to live when you price space by the square foot, the area and the amenities.

What a great review and info of Sandburg Village. Even at today's real estate prices, these apartments have generous room sizes compared to anything else built in the last 20 years. My living room is over 14X20 with a balcony. There is also a dining room and kitchen. Most newly built highrise building in the same price point have combo kitchen/dining/living rooms that are can't even come close to Sandburg apartments. My bedroom is 13X16...again...most newly built highrise buildings have master bedrooms that are only 10X11!!! The parking is such a deal!!! The only con is that we have to rent the parking...but...if you look at the numbers...I'd rather rent a heated parking space for $120 per month than pay $35K for a parking space that also needs a monthly assessment and yearly taxes paid. Again...Sandburg Village is THE BARGAIN OF THE CENTURY in the middle of the Gold Coast! WOW...

How is the noise level? I have read in one of the reviews listed that sandburg has thin walls that you could hear next door neighbors. Is that true?
