I have lived at Windermere House for over 20 years and this is the first company and property manager that has improved this building and staff.
I was shocked to read some of the negative comments about the building. I was born and raised in Hyde Park and plan on dying in Hyde Park. We have several U of C students and professors that live in the building. I am very excited about some of the improvements and renovation that will be taking place at the building in the near future. I encourage everyone to stop by my lovely building and maybe they will show you an apartment that you can move into. I love my apartment and I have offered to buy it but MAC isn't interested. Call the office at 773.643.1500 and speak with Shanasha, Eric or Nicole in the office

This person is definitely an employee, perhaps Shanasha herself. Personally, I have not seen any improvements in this building since MAC took over, except for them taking out the bike racks. They were in a safe location out front, but removed for a project and then never replaced. Now I have to keep my bike in my apartment! Also, I have heard that they're getting rid of the underground parking, located next door, to build a condo there. So ratings for parking should soon be zero!

MAC properties has taken a beautiful building and productive staff members, and in their quest to make a dollar have lost valuable employees and allowed a beautiful building to start going to seed. Future renters, BEWARE!

Shanasha Powell? Awesome? This is the first resident that I know who says that... On the contrary, all the residents I have spoke with have SERIOUS complaints about her, all of them starting with the fact that she has ZERO skills in dealing with other persons. I have been in a MAC managed property for the last few years and, since she arrived, the property went backwards DRAMATICALLY... I cannot understand how someone can say she is "awesome" when she even struggles to do her basic job: ask her, for instance, when are you going to install *something* she promised to have for a few weeks before, and I bet she will tell you "I don't know, it will be done, but I don't know when" if you are lucky, if you are not, she will try to blame the delay on you... BTW...Shanasha, were you writing a review for yourself?

This manager is, through her company (MAC management), responsible for many other buildings in the Hyde Park area. MAC has gone on a buying spree in the neighborhood, taking over buildings, performing minimal cosmetic upgrades, and then raising rents significantly; they now own so many of the rental buildings in the neighborhood that their pricing policies dominate the local rental market. It's their right, of course, to get compensation for their services, but everywhere they've taken over the story is the same: a collapse in the most basic services that a management company could provide (improper asbestos removal, lost rent checks, unpaid utilities in the buildings, etc.) If you are a U of C student thinking of renting in this building or any other Mac apartment, check Facebook first or just ask around. You'll get the real picture that way soon enough. Seek an alternative management company, even if it means moving out of Hyde Park. Bad management is, in the long run, more expensive than commuting.
