My apartment at Forest Hill was my comfortable home for 10 years. I loved so many things about it. My apartment was very clean when I moved in. Parking near the door to my building was always available. My laundry room and my large personal storage area were also located in my building (actually right across the hall from me because I lived on the first floor). The location was perfect for the travel required by my work to and from the many suburbs. My rooms were more spacious than any I had ever had in any apartment. My bedroom had both a large walk-in closet with hanging rods on each side and another large closet with a hanging rod that ran the entire length of one bedroom wall. (I didn't have to pack away seasonal clothing because I had plenty of space for everything.) The hallway linen closet was the largest I had ever seen anywhere, and I did enjoy that wonderful space. The hot water heating system with no blowers making noise kept me nice and warm during the winter months, and the cost of the heat, as well as the gas for cooking, was included in my rent. I lived in a back apartment which was perfect for me because I enjoyed the privacy and quiet view outside my patio door. But I did meet other tenants who were more comfortable living in the front apartments, so choices for everyone were available there. Maintenance was great. Parking lots were cleared promptly during winter snows, and lawn maintenance crews were there on a weekly basis during the warmer months to keep the grounds looking nice. A cleaning crew also came once a week to clean the laundry room, the well-lighted hallways, and the large windows at both the front and back building entrances. Whenever I had any problems specific to my apartment, Management would always send out maintenance personnel promptly to take care of them. I felt very secure there. The building was locked, and a few years back the mailboxes were also relocated to the inside of the building which was another big plus. Ten years ago I looked at lots of apartments before I found my home at Forest Hill. Many had rents that were way too high, and many had rooms that were way too small. When I looked at the Forest Hill apartment, I knew right away it was the one for me. The rent was reasonable and it had an awesome amount of space. It seemed to have everything I was looking for, and it turned out to be perfect. So it was with some sadness that I moved away from there on May 31, 2009, but since I am now retired from my work in the Chicago suburbs, I found it necessary to relocate again to an area that is nearer to my family. I did all the cleaning specified by Management for the return of my security deposit, and I have already received my refund check, as well as a check for the interest that I earned on the deposit. I hope that whoever moves into my former home will love it as much as I did.

I'm not sure who you are, but it seems to me that you are NOT describing the place where I lived for 10 years. If what you say is true, I do not know how I could have been so happy there. The buildings are certainly not new, but most older buildings were constructed with more quality than many newer ones. I hardly ever heard any noise from neighbors and I never heard any storms that blew through in the night while I was sleeping. I attributed that to the quality construction of the buildings. I never saw any "weeds all over" in the area where I lived, and since I was home most of the time during the last 3 years, I know that a crew did ground maintenance every week faithfully during the warmer seasons. And in 10 years, I never did experience a broken washer and dryer for any "extended period of time." The Speed Queens were very durable and I remember very few problems. A dryer in my building had to be replaced once, and that was done within only a couple of days. And as far as the heat goes, my apartment was always warm in the winter...the warmest place I have ever lived in cold weather. I attributed this also to the solid construction of the buildings. I had a thermostat to adjust my own heat, and it certainly seemed to be working for me. If I needed more heat and turned up the thermostat, I could reach down with my hands and feel the heat registers heating up. And I'm not sure what you mean by "luxury" and "amenities." I was looking mostly for a nice, clean, and comfortable place to live at a comfortable price...and that's what I found at Forest Hill. I did not feel that I needed amenities like a swimming pool, gym, concierge services, etc. that are offered by some apartment complexes. However, I did look at some apartment complexes 10 years ago that had these various amenities available, and I guarantee you that their rents far exceeded my rent at Forest Hill. Some of those newer apartments with more "amenities" had rooms so small that you could hardly turn around in them. I remember one place that had a child's couch in the living room because a full-sized couch wouldn't fit. So I know I got a lot more for my money at Forest Hill, and I consider myself a little picky. That's why I looked at so many apartments to find the one that was perfect for me. I had an opportunity to meet quite a few tenants during my time there, and I don't remember hearing many complaints. So I know I am not the only happy tenant. I consider myself a responsible person and always try to be a good tenant. I always pay my rent on time and do my best to take care of the places I rent. Whenever I have moved, I have always let my landlord know that it is important to me to get back my security deposit, and I have always asked them specifically what is required of me for it to be refunded. So that is what I did also at Forest Hill and was given a list of items that needed done, which was basically cleaning the apartment. (It was very clean when I moved in, so I was happy to leave it in the same condition.) I let Management there know that I would need my deposit refund as soon as possible and they told me they would do an inspection right after I moved out so that they could process the refund for me. It was that simple. I was really surprised to find your response the day after I left my recommendation. And I'm wondering why it is so important to you to speak out so badly against Forest Hill. I'm sorry if you lived there and had a bad experience. People differ and so do their likes and dislikes. I can only speak for myself and my experience. But everything I said in my recommendation was true for me. I was very happy with my home at Forest Hill Apartments for the entire 10 years that I lived there and felt very sad that I had to leave it. It was definitely the best place I ever rented and I loved it there.

Sounds like the property manager coaxed this one also. The grounds are horrible, weeds all over. Washer and dryer broke for extended periods of time. No luxury for the price. It is very unbelievable that the security deposit was returned that soon. I do not think they get into the apartment to inspect that soon. I hear the property manager encourages and tells previous tenants to give an excellent review. For the price you are paying you get nothing. An old apartment, no amenities, and cold winters. It appears you are controlling your own heat, but surprise, they are.
