Don't Do It!!!

"Don't Do It!" is what I want to say to potential tenants of this complex. My husband (then fiance)moved in and thought that it would be a nice place. We were impressed with it when we were shown around. We got all moved in and settled, that is when the problems started.
First the "Doorking". This little intercom outside of the building is supposed to let you buzz people up from outside. This would have been a great amenity had it EVER worked. I called maintenance about it and they came out and said that it was because we had caller id. Which is a load of garbage. We complained about that for about the entire time we were here. It was a pain for us, friends, family, and the pizza delivery guy (who went bezerk on me one night because he had been out there pounding on the door for 10 minutes!). So then we just had people call us when they got into the parking lot.
The next thing, our bedroom air-conditioner. This piece of machinery was a piece of work. Let me tell you. It would leak and spit water drops out the front of it! Again, when I called (I am a girl), they came out and said that it was because we didn't have the storm window shut (I guess it would have helped if we even had a storm window). They installed them, and it had rained again, same stuff was happening. I don't even think that they came out again after I had called.
The next thing that I called about was ants. It was NASTY! We are fairly clean. We make sure there is no food on the floor or counters etc. yet we had ants - in the bathroom! Well, it was a weekend night and I left a message on the machine in the office - they never called. We finally went out and got RAID and got rid of them ourselves.
Our gutter outside of our sliding glass door - was clogged or something - so we would have literally a waterfall outside our door.
Then in maybe the end of April or May, there was a knock on my door, a maintenance guy was like..I need to check for a leak in the bedroom. He checked and sure enough water was leaking fromt he air conditioner (again) but this time it was raining so hard and so often that it was coming through the ceiling in the apartment below us. I told that guy that we had called and called about it and they basically gave us the run around the whole time we were there. (He was very sweet though, he said that no one should have treated us like that and he was sorry). He calked outside the air-conditioner - and I think that things were fine.
Then my husband and I got married and went on our honeymoon. We got back late on a Sunday night to find a note on our door - saying that they are going to be redoing the roof. Which was fine, except they started at about 7:30 in the morning and put a few nail holes in our ceiling (which we don't know how that would have happened, considering there is an attic above us.
We needed to extend our lease for about 2 months, which wasn't a problem, except that they wanted to charge us more than $1000 dollars a month to stay there. And there were charges that were stupid. We were five dollars short on our rent one month - $5! They called our apartment and MY PARENT'S HOUSE to tell me that we were short and they needed that ASAP. Which I understand $50 or $100 or more...but $5!
The washers are expensive and often there are clothes left in them. The dryers in our building are crappy. They are expensive and don't dry anything!!!
Our neighbors are another subject. NOISE, NOISE, NOISE! My husband and I recently graduated from college, so we feel that we are pretty tolerant of people...but the people in our building would let their kids run up and down the hall and up the stairs and back down - screaming and yelling the whole way -- at 11:00 at night during the week! Then it got warmer out and they moved outside - which is fine. But they would be out there at 11:45 -12:00 having a little party on a week night - and their kids still running around and screaming - not giggling, and playing - SCREAMING! They would also go out and smoke under our balcony and we would be forced to shut all the windows and turn on the air (I am allergic to smoke). It was just a big pain in the butt. These neighbors also had a stereo system that would blare bass for hours at night and into early morning. My husband would go down and ask him to turn it down, and he would act like he had it on the lowest setting - "You can hear that'". We were pissed. We both work. I am a teacher during the school year, and have a 9-5 summer job. My husband works in the city and would have to catch the train early. It was just annoying.
I did not feel safe there at all. I hated being there by myself. Our apartment was the only apartment that had 2 deadbolts on it. So I should have felt safe, but I didn't. I didn't trust the neighbors or the apartment staff; We were going to let them know that we would be gone the week of our honeymoon, but didn't because we didn't trust them with everything in our apartment.
The parking isn't terrible. The lots are poorly lit and there are kids riding their bikes around all over the place and don't move if you pull into the lot or the road. They figure that you will stop. It was tempting a few times. They also mess with your car. I now have scratched all over my hood (possibly from people sitting on it). I had a zip tie shoved into the lock on my trunk. Not good!
The landscaping is pretty sad. Our backyard is not grassy at all. Trees and bushes in sad condition.
Recently, this is nasty, the rug in the hallway was folded over. The cleaning people that clean the hallway and such came to clean one morning when I was leaving for work. It smelled something raunchy. SOmeone had thrown up and folded the rug over for an easy clean up. It reeked! They did their best to clean it, and it still smelled. I guess someone got sick of it and threw it outside when it was raining. But then the following weekend - someone had thrown up in a bucket and left it on the entrance to our building.
I guess we thought that living here would be a good idea and be fun...but it was a lot of headache and pain.
On a good note, Tracy in the office is very nice. Pete from maintenance is nice. The apartments are spacious (not $900 spacious) but fairly big. We had lots of closet space.
In closing, we had a bad expereince here...that is not to say everyone will. I am just trying to be fair. We just had rude neighbors and a hard time. So, we wouldn't live there again.
