Overall, a pretty good experience

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2003
I rented here from 2000 to 2003 (until I bought a condo) and I had a pretty good experience. My 1BR was small and a little pricey for the size but just enough room for me & my little dog & was close to work for me in Wheaton, so it was worth it. Their pet policy was comparable to other complexes in the area...and with time value of money, the $400 or so deposit wasn't so bad. And I was on the 1st floor, so it was easy to take my dog out. The floors in the kitchen and bath could have used some updating, and the woodwork/trim. The bedroom closet (small walk-in) was a great size for me. Never really had anything major break that I needed to call maintenance for, but if they needed to check the furnace or change the filters, they always gave notice several days in advance. I also used my own higher efficiency filters. I guess the heat went out once in the morning (burr for my morning shower!) but was fixed by the time I got home from work. And the disposal a couple of times, but it was always fixed promptly. The staff was nice, and it is great that they can accept packages for you in the clubhouse. The small exercise room was sufficient for me, but the hot tub was never working. The pool area was great, and there are usually 4 parties a year (free!) for guests at the club house. I was usually lucky to get a parking spot right in front of my patio too. The storage off of the patio was a lifesaver! It is a decent size...comparable to a small rental storage unit. The car wash area is very handy...and they also had a model apartment available to rent if you had out of town guests (a little more expensive then say one of the local hotels, but very convenient.) Some cons....the first winter I lived there was super cold, and with a gas furnace, I was getting raped! Most of the time, the heat was not on in the hallway, so I always but a rug over the crack in the bottom of my door to keep the draft out. I also invested in a small electric space heater, since the first six inches off the floor (cement under carpet) was pretty cold--& helped keep my small dog warm. Garages were kind of pricey, so I didn't get one. They also have a free bike storage garage, but sometimes the lock would jam.
