it's ok, but they are raising rent

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I have lived here for exactly a year. Now I am getting ready to move to Palatine, to a new apartment because they are jacking up rent $50 more/month which I think is ridiculous. Especially because I have been a good renter and paid on time. They should give me the same price for another year.
Generally I think the apartments are ok. but here are the bad parts:
Maintenance can't speak or spell english so you have to guess and ask them to repeat themselves. also the a/c broke, and they said "you can't keep the air lower than 70 or it will freeze and not work, so turn on the heat for a while if that won't work." the crazy thing is that this fixed the problem. it sucks having to turn on the heat temporarily in the summer to fix the A/C though!!!
I live in the 4400 building, with I-294 right outside the balcony. This sucked. I needed an apartment fast though, and picked it anyway. But the traffic noise got to me pretty quickly. So make sure you aren't right next to the tollway.
there were house ants in the kitchen, but after a few days an exterminator came. kinda gross though.
the parking is horrendous. the pretty lakes around the apartment cut into potential parking spaces. after 8pm you have to park a mile away from your apartment. HATED that!
as for the lakes, they flood a lot, and for some reason aren't drained properly. this would also cut into potential parking slots.
snow removal was slow. it seems like it is always slow for apartments, but that was aggravating too.
toward the back wall the floor has an incline up about 1 foot away from the wall. this made it hard to place shelves or chairs or tables near the wall because it was not level. not sure if this was just my apartment, though.
there is a big draft in the balcony doors. so big of a draft in fact, that once during a bad snow storm, i looked over and a tiny pile of snow was INSIDE on our carpet! they need to get new doors or properly insulate them.
for some reason, after they installed the plenum (a fancy box on top of the a/c / heater that is supposed to make air flow better), the air flow was primarily in the living room only. our bedroom was freezing. tried to fix it twice, they improved it minimally, it was still not great, not even good. they get really feisty when you suggest to just take out the plenum and return it to normal, though. this is one of the reasons we are moving, because my fiance doesn't want to go into a hot bedroom, if all the a/c is blowing primarily into the living room.
wish the pool were bigger.
they raised the laundry fee from $1.25 to $1.75. not cool.
the comcast cable went out quite a few times. i'm not sure what the deal was with that, but it was more power outages than other apartments i've lived in.
don't expect the emergency maintenance crew to answer your calls. you will go to voicemail.
this may sound like a lot, but the apartment was livable. just hope the next apartment i live in is better.
