I like living here

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2008
I've been a resident of Amli since October 2004, and I'm contemplating renewing my lease for a 5th year.
All in all, it's not that bad... not to say some of the complaints are invalid, but what do you really expect from an apartment complex'
I live in a Raven unit with an attached garage.. an attached HEATED garage. Now, this is one of the main reasons I haven't moved in 4 years. I just love not having to get into a cold snowy car in the winter time, and you can rent extra garages at $75 a pop. I have never really had an issue with parking, as I have my garage and guests can park in the little driveway in front of my garage.
The weird thing is that the door buzzers are on the opposite side of the building facing the trees, not facing the road, and there isn't really a sidewalk to get there. Guests get really confused about that.
I like the maintenance guys, they're very friendly and down to earth. We've had to call the emergency maintenance guy one night when our neighbor flooded her bathroom and the water came through our ceiling. The guy showed up within 15 minutes and the ceiling was re-painted the next day.
Getting maintenance done is tricky though. I guess there are only a couple of fix it guys and too many apartments, we had a conversation with one of the office people one day who told us that things are fixed on a urgent basis... like, if you live in a 2 bathroom apartment and one of your toilets is broken, you're not urgent and could wait up to a week because you have another toilet in the house, so it's not an emergency. Just learn how to unclog your own toilets, because the dum low flow toilets are CONSTANTLY getting clogged.
We had our dryer break once and it took 4 tries over the course of a month for them to come and fix it properly. Our washing machine is starting to break now, maybe we'll just move rather than wait for them to get that fixed.
The rental office hours are inconvenient. They open at 10 and close at 6 until summer, when they're open until 7. If you get a package delivered, UPS and FedEx dont' even bother buzzing the apartment anymore, so even if you're home, your package will still end up at the rental office. If you have a job, then you can't get your packages until the weekend because the office has such great hours. I just get packages sent to my work, I get them faster.
The exercise room is convenient. Decent machines, functioning tv's and it's cleaned everyday (I know because I'm usually in there when the cleaning people are cleaning it). I mean it's not Bally's but then again, it's free, so you'll get no complaints from me.
The first 3 years we lived there were totally quiet. We live on the 2nd floor and had quiet people above and below us. I guess our unit got turned into the swingin single party building because the rockstars below us play their music so loud everyday my coffee table vibrates. I think the guy upstairs from me must be a chain smoker or something because I hear him coughing and retching up a lung everymorning. Oh, and one of our neighbors sets his alarm for 3:50 AM and lets it go off until 4:45 AM. About twice a week, his phone will ring at the same time, I guess he's a heavy sleeper... boy I sure wish I was.
I don't venture out into the hallways very often since I have that amazing garage. When I walk by my front door, I can smell my neighbor's cooking though.. on the INSIDE of my apartment. What are you going to do' That just sort of comes along with living in an apartment building.
The inside of the apartment is great, there's lots of light, the super high ceilings make the rooms look more spacious, and there really is a lot of space... and I love love love the garages. Sure the place is a little spendy, with all things considered (extra garage rent, pet rent, water & trash) $1350 a month for a 1100 sq ft apartment is a little pricey, but the place has served us VERY WELL over the past 4 years. It's a great location, and while not perfect, it's no slum either.
Apartment living is always a gamble, I think we broke even with AMLI.
