Depends What You're NOT Looking For

I moved in Jan08 and leave Feb09. I'd like to leave sooner. The size of the apartment is relativey decent, depending on how much stuff you have and if you live alone. My boyfriend just recently moved in with me and I feel cramped beyond belief(there's no space for anything!). What I don't understand is how a family of 4 (one above me who makes some of the worse racket known to man) can live in this size apt. Next door to me is another woman who constantly for hours on end a day will play her music at levels reserved for movie theatres. I've called management twice on her to complain about the noise but they don't do anything. I worry about the state of security- there is none. The doors into each apt are not standard security doors. People come and go as they please through the open backdoors or the unlocked front doors. When I moved in, I was given a list of things to check out in the apt. I handed the manager 2 pages of pictures as well as a written list of things needed to be fixed. Halfway through my lease they still haven't fixed things. My bathroom is the worst: the tub leaks, the tile isn't attached to the wall, the upstairs neighbors tub leaked requiring me to have the ceiling repaired. The heating ducts are falling apart and don't heat well. My kitchen counter is not attached to the wall; the cabinets are ugly and squeaky. There is no ventalation in the kitchen- I have to turn on the ceiling fan in the dinning room when I cook so the smoke dectector doesn't go off. The "inidividually controlled airconditioning" is a crappy AC unit stored in the dinning room, cooling down the kitchen/dinning room only. The laundry "facility" consists of 1 coin washer/dryer. And there is no additional storage for tenants. There's plenty of room in the laundry basement to have it, but management decides no. My oven didn't work the first month I lived here and though the new maintenance guys arrived promptly after my call, they told me I messed up the oven (I'd never used it) and if they couldn't switch it out with another units oven, I'd had to pay for a new one. WOW. The location is nice- the road noise/train noise is about average. Very green, very well kept grounds. If you're looking for a first time apartment, this would do alright, but in condsideration for the problems, bring along an Inspector- see if they can light a fire under management's butt.
*Update: The bathroom faucet that leaked sinced day one- finally went out. The faucet was turned completely off and yet the water ran like it was full on. Maintenance didn't show up for 45 minutes. I called the manager wondering where they were- first time no one picked up. On the second try, she answered saying the guys were there, the water shut off. I held the phone up to the running faucet, "try that again'" They went to the wrong building! I doubt I'll be compesenated for the water bill or have my rent reduced for next month because of this issue; you want a good apartment' I'd pay that little extra cash for someplace better if I were you!

My boyfriend and I have lived here for a year and a half. Our air conditioner when out a week ago and we are on the third floor. The temp. has been 110 degrees in our apartment every day. I have been ot the phone with the office here and down in Oak Brook and got nothing but rude attitude from everyone that I have spoken with. And we still don't have an air conditioner that works. We also had the same thing happen with our bath tub faucet. It took them an hour and a half to get there. We also didn't have a shower for a week after that until they were able to fix it. We had to go to our parents house to take showers.

yes i agree this place is no good. even though me and my BF put up with it for 1 and 1/2 years. the place was falling apart. we could not even use our bath tub for week cause they had to re-do the tub cause it was pealin (the paint was pealing) and the back door to out apt was so thin all you had to do was blow on it and it would open. you can see the lock and anyone could just break in. the parking was bad. we had to fight over parking and then these -------s pepole with a hummer would take up 2 spots just to save the spot for the other huge red truck. it was crazy one time i took there spot and they blocked me in with the hummer and would not move. let me remind you there was not assigned parking!!!! LOL Man I am glad to be out of that hell hole that they call apartments. Gurnee should be ashammed to have those in the area.
