Okay Apartment Complex

Besides the kids playing in the hallway sometimes (they were told not to and management sent letters around to help enforce this), this place isn't bad. The apartments are recently updated, and the carpeting is in good condition. The wood floors are new and I always get compliments on them.

The AREA, however, is not very nice. The village does a very nice job taking care of the area and roads, but there is a lot of loitering on the corner of Lake St. and Walnut Ave. There is a lot of gang members that harrass me and my boyfriend if we are stopped at that red light. Forget about getting change from the convenience store or the laundromat there. You will probably get jumped. But for the most part, if you mind your business -- they mind theirs.

As far as the comment goes about the toilet and bathtub always getting clogged -- I think that is an individual problem. My toilet does not get clogged unless you stuff it full of toilet paper. Not a problem - flush often. Water is free. The shower, on the other hand, does clog frequently -- but I chock that up to my long hair always clogging the drain up. Buy some Drain-O. The laundry room in my building is clean and the washer and dryers are efficient ($1 each to run). They seem to be available almost always.

The only major problem that I have with these apartments is this: I moved in July 2006 and from that time until about March/April of 2007 we had a problem with cockroaches in my building (as well as at least one other building). I even went as far as to call the county health department, which couldn't do anything because it is in the incorporated (or inincorporated') section of Hanover Park where the are not allowed jurisdiction. They only told me that the complex is required to spray for pests once a month! Once a month was definitely not doing the job because the roaches would be back the NEXT DAY! And I do NOT keep a dirty house, believe me! The roaches would come from the neighbors and the management told me that they pretty much knew where the pests were coming from but they couldn't terminate the peoples' lease because they paid their rent on time. The problem just recently seems to have been cleared up, even though the tenants moved out in January (supposedly).

Management is good about other maintenance issues, and the landscaping is very nice. The environment is quiet, except for the normal things like kids playing, etc. Carl from the office does not have a very friendly personality. He is rather drab and always speaks in a monotonous tone. He is not very helpful, either.

I do not like how you have to pay $5 for a single guest pool pass for EACH day, however. I think that $5 is outrageous when you can go to a WATER PARK for not much more than that.... Plus even babies have to WEAR their pool pass when in the pool area! It's a plastic piece affixed by a safety pin! I am not pinning a safety pin on my 5 month old son, I'm sorry.

Another thing -- I do not know how they plan on selling these apartments as CONDOS! They are apartments and nothing more. I would not want to invest my hard-earned money in this property. If someone decides to purchase my unit, it is in my lease that I have 60 days to get out. That is unfair, in my opinion. This was not discussed with me prior to signing my lease (which is my fault, I guess) and no one EVER mentioned that they would be selling our HOMES until one day the condo salesman knocked on my door and spoke to me very RUDELY about how I would have to vacate if someone wanted to buy my unit. That is BS.

I DO plan on siging my lease again (even though they raised the rates $60 in only one year. Apparently my building is not selling just yet and I do not feel like packing up the whole place and moving out just yet.
