Maybe it's because of my age...but I like it here

I looked for an apartment for about a month and had seen about a half a dozen others. The reason why I choose Hinsdale Lake Terr. was because they offered me the best move in price and were very friendly in the leasing office (but of course they were, they wanted my money)
I am going to say right now that I am twenty four years old (twenty three when I moved in) and I think that because of that most of the problems don't bother me.
Right before I moved in, I had a co-worker who lived in here as well tell me that this place was horrible with lots of noise and loitering problems. Of course she had literally just resigned her lease as she was telling me this.
When I first moved in my heat stopped working twice within the first week. Both times I called in the morning and the problem was fixed when I got home that night. Haven't had a problem with it since. I have had three other problems with my apartment, one was a clogged sink drain and two the lining of my bathtub was peeling. The sink took about two and a half weeks to get fixed, in which I did call after one week to let them know how long it was taking. And the lining of my tub was fixed within two days. The last one was a leak in the ceiling, something with the people's above me toilet. This problem was also fixed within in a day or two. I don't know if four problems in the apartment over the course of a year is a bad thing or not but I am a very easy going person so none of these ever bothered me because they always got fixed.
Two or three days out of the week the hallways do smell of weed, even though I am not a drug user myself, again, this does not bother me because the smell does not leak into my apartment.
Exit signs have been broken twice, writing on the wall twice in marker, and once dirt was smeared on the wall. About half of these problems I told the management office and the other half were fixed quickly on their own. The ones I did report were also fixed on their own and when I reported them the ladies in the management office were always nice, friendly and professional.
The only time I ever saw an act of violence was during the winer when the glass to the front door of the building had been smashed. It was very late at night when I came home so I called and left a message. I was given a call back quickly and told that the problem had been reported and was getting taken care of. Within the next few hours the glass was cleaned up and a piece of plywood was put on the door. This wood stayed there for about two weeks before new glass was put up. This length of time did bother me.
The other bad thing which drives me crazy is how weak and thin the ceiling is above me (I live on the first floor). So every time the people above me move it makes a horribly loud creaking sound which keeps me awake. I have had this problem at eleven o'clock at night, two o'clock at night, and six in the morning. It makes me wonder if the people above me ever sleep. I know this is not the management's fault, it's just the way the building was made.
The rule is two cats, I have a third cat and when I thinking about getting a third I called up and asked. A few days later I was given a call back and told that would not be a problem.
Whenever the management gets word of a problem (kids smoking in the hallway, loitering, bb or paintball gun use in the parking lot, or trash being left about) they always send out flyer's to each apartment explaining how this is against the rules, to talk to your children and offer a reward (about one or two hundred dollars off the next month rent) to anyone who can lend information leading to the children who are responsible.
One last note, everyone who lives here is very nice. I've always had people say hello and smile when we pass and on the night I moved in my neighbor and his wife came over and introduced themselves and have been very friendly ever since, inviting me over for a beer whenever they BBQ outside. The only time I have not received decent courtesy is when it is a teenager. Buy hey, they're teenagers, lost in their own world.
I love living here. I think the management office is beyond responsible, a cleaning crew goes into my building every morning, and all problems (except for a few) have been taken care of within a timely manner. I have just signed my lease for a second year and if it wasn't for the face that it is twenty miles from work I would stay here until I was ready to settle down with a family and a house.
There are MUCH worse places you can live, I moved here from Waterbury in Woodridge, and the price is excellent. If you're an easy going person and live on the second floor I think you'll enjoy living here.

Hello Tennya,
I totally agree with all that you have indicated in your statement! It was well explained! I've been a tenant at Hinsdale Lake Terrace for 4yrs & I am very blessed and pleased to be here! If you come in with an open/positive mind and leave the rest up to "GOD", it will be alright! Also, to put things in a better perspective on the economic and safety side, I feel truly safe & blessed to be here! Amen! :-)

You made some very good points. Regardless what your age is we all want a safe, nice, and economical plae to live. HLT is one of the more reasonably priced complexes in the western suburbs. One of my sisters lived in building 12 on the second floor and was always getting calls from the management office because the people under her complained that her TV was too loud, but the truth was the apartments are soo poorly insulated. On the flipside, my other sister who lived in building 10 on the first floor could hear every conversation and intimate momemt the people over her had.
The maintainence guys are good at general stuff like when my garbage disposal would break but when it comes to the more complex jobs it takes them a little longer to respond.
Now that I'm back living in the city I really do miss HLT.
