In the 5 years that I have lived in various apartments, I have never had mice. It is unacceptable to me that I personally caught 3 mice after Homestead maintenace made a feeble attempt to resolve the problem. In order to have the problem acknowledged I had to call repeatedly. After inquiring as to what the problem may be that they are getting into my apartment so easily, I was informed that there was a broken pipe in the laundry room directly below my apartment. The pipe was not fixed in a timely manner and I continued to have to deal with the mouse situation on my own.
Another problem I have is that they advertise "eat-in" kitchens. I don't know whose kitchen they could fit a table in but it certainly is not mine. There is no counter space and I have to perform a balancing act in order to fill my plate since I can't even set a plate down on the counter since I have to have someplace to put my appliances. There is no pantry. The extra space was used to put a closet in the dining room. I don't know about you but I like to have a place to keep food and appliances. Our coat closet in the living room is acting as storage for our appliances. The floor is scuffed up and will not come clean, there is very limited cabinet space and with three doorways in the kitchen, space has really become an issue.
The laundry room is a joke. There is one washer and dryer for 8-10 apartments to share. There is no change machine so I am constantly having to run to Jewel to get money. On top of that, every time that I try to do laundry, someone else is already using the machine.
I had a car get broken into in the lot and things of course were stolen. The police responded quickly which was good. There are too many cars and not enough parking. I am consistently having to park four or five buildings away. I do not enjoy walking to my apartment in the dark at night. The lighting is very poor. When new parking was created I chose a space under a light and closer to my apartment for my own security. I was then approached by a maintenance man while I was alone in the dark and he proceeded to tell me that I had to move my car because there were still other spaces available. When I told him that I would not be moving my car, he proceeded to tell me exactly which apartment I live in with a threatening tone. I no longer feel secure allowing the maintenance men into my apartment when I am around.
The aparments are in a nice area and they are affordable. If you can get past all the rest then I guess that this would be the place for you. The neighbors are quiet and I have very rarely had a complaint against anyone in my building.

I agree totally with everything you've said here. I lived in Homestead for 5-6 years. I had a major problem with mice and was given the same excuse. I was in a 1st floor apartment where this occurred. You may have my old apartment. I also lived on a third floor apartment for 6 months and had a few mice there as well. I liked the area and the convenience of everything being close by but the apartment situation and the management was horrible. The property manager is a lying, conniving snake who made up false charges to keep half of my security deposit when I moved out. The maintainence guy creeps around day and night. The parking is horrible; they allow visitors to park in residents' spaces and do not enforce calling the police to have them removed. I wouldn't advise anyone or their dog to live there.
