As another reviewer states, this is the best place in the area to live. The fact of the matter is that I have lived here for nearly 2 years and experienced very few, if any, problems. Certainly nothing like some people have complained about.
Tara and the staff have been great to me. They are very friendly and I enjoy talking with them. Obviously some people have had problems, but it certainly isn't everyone.
Snow removal, which was WONDERFUL last year, has been a problem this year. The company that is under contract clearly is not putting this complex first. Whereas last year they were on top of things early and frequently, this year they are waiting until the snow has stopped before addressing the need. Then, they are not returning to clean up the mess. After the foot of snow last week, they made one or two runs through the place, but never returned to clear the rest off. They should have come by over the weekend, before it hit subzero temperatures again to clear off the pavement. Instead, we have ruts and ice. Of course, it is still better than one place I lived where we had to go dig our own cars out and the snow wasn't removed for nearly 4 days after a huge snowfall.
As far as onsite maintenance, I've always had excellent service that was quick and accurate. Anytime I've called, they've come by as soon as they could. Again, absolutely no problems.
I agree with the statement about the thermostats. They are very cheap and it is all but impossible to tell what the temperature is set at. The apartments can also be drafty in the winter; however, I've never paid more than $45/mo for gas and/or electricity (even with a ceramic heater running all the time). It would be nice if the windows were better insulated, but that can be helped with plastic and I've heard of people paying a lot more at other complexes nearby.
I have NEVER had brown water in my apartment. The tap water is fine and I don't know what the previous reviewer is talking about. There is iron in the water and, if you don't clean your shower, sinks, and toilet, you may start to notice a buildup. I grew up in this area and it has always been this way. Other areas of the country get lime. Don't know what else to say about this, except it is all clean here!
The apartments are some of the biggest and the best in the area. I've looked at the other apartments nearby and they are not nearly as nice. The one bedroom apartments here are 200 - 300 sq. feet bigger. The grounds are well-kept and beautifully landscaped. Noise is minimal and it is very safe. Parking can be a hassle sometimes if you don't have a garage, but that goes with apartment living (in my experience).

| Thank you for nice description of the community. As a staff, we all agree that there were some improvements that needed to be made with the snow removal. We are always diligent to point out any areas of improvement needed to operate more efficiently to our vendors, including the snow removal. Please feel free to pass on any suggestions. We do pride ourselves on the maintenance accuracy and responsiveness and have recently started a maintenance follow-up program where we try to call each resident back to gain useful feedback to improve operation standards. The thermostats in each apartment home are not digital, but do in fact gauge the actual temperature. There is a lever on the face of the thermostat that accurately detects the current temperature. Just as with any other apartment complex or home, thermostats can malfunction from time to time. Our 1 bedrooms are very unique in that they are quite large (907 sq. ft.) and offer very large room sizes and a private entrance. Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. | |

My gas bill was more like 100 bucks, and it's not set high at all. Not that I can actually ready the damn thermostat for any actual reading.

I was in a one bedroom as well, and the bedroom never even got warm (I slept in the living room). Maybe I just had a crap thermostat... which would make it a crap apartment all together when you factor in the brown water (I clean my toilets and bathtub on a regular basis).

i have a 2 bedroom on the 2nd floor. The 2nd bedroom is over a garage and it is really hard to keep warm. seems like the garages are not insulated enough. A space heater usually takes care of the problem.

First, I'm so sick of people accusing anyone who writes a good review of being on the staff. I don't work for the Sanctuary. If I did, do you think I would talk about the snow removal problems and thermostats? Use your brain!
Second, my gas bill for Jan. 08 was $43.84 and, except for a couple of days, it has been extremely cold. I was home all the time and I kept it at a pretty comfortable setting. Of course, as I said, I also ran a ceramic heater so that helped. I'm also in a one bedroom, so I imagine that keeps costs down. In addition, just to be clear, my gas and electric together came to approx. $80 - $90 a month. Again, this is for the winter. In the summer, my electric averages $40 and my gas was approx. $23. Maybe your heat was set higher than you thought.
