Nicest apartments in town, very expensive

We lived at the Sanctuary for one year. We checked out all the apartments in the area before we moved in, these were the nicest, cleanest and biggest (and most expensive!) ones. I think having rules in an apartment complex is a good thing, it keeps things organized, safe, and clean. The outside areas are very pretty and well maintained. Snow removal was very slow and I did slip and fall once in front of our entrance because there was a lot of ice. The current maintenance guy is very good, we weren't happy with the two before him. They responded to calls quickly, but they weren't very well trained at their jobs. We had a problem with the temperature of our water for a couple of months, it wasn't very hot. Vince the last guy kept telling us it was normal that way. When the new maintenance guy got there he fixed it within minutes and we could finally enjoy hot showers. We were not impressed with the heater in the winter and the AC in the summer. The system is very noisy and not very efficient. Amanda and Chrystal are very friendly and helpful, they always took care of any issues we had promptly. Tara can be a bit moody at times. People on here shouldn't attack her personal life, very mean and not really helpful for someone looking for an objective opinion when they are trying to find a place to live. I agree they need a better system with the package delivery notification, but now that we live in our house I realize how nice it was not to have to go to the crowded post office for pick-up. The landscaping and cleaning personal was always polite. We never had any problems with noisy or rude residents.

Manager's Response

Thank you for your response regarding The Sanctuary of Lake Villa. We pride ourselves on our spacious, luxurious apartment homes and keep them as safe and clean as possible. The property???s prices reflect our large apartment homes and our well maintained property. We are competitive with other area complexes that hold the same high standards as The Sanctuary. Rules are necessary to uphold our standards and keep the property running smoothly. We are very clear about our expectations and point them out both in the lease as well as in the resident handbook. The Sanctuary also holds our staff to the same high standards, hence the new maintenance superintendent. Snow removal was very difficult this past winter due to the record amount of snow that fell in a short time. Our complex, as well as other area towns, ran out of salt mid-winter and had to travel to Indiana to purchase salt. We did our best with the tools we had available at the time and always noted any resident complaints.

Two words. Damage control. Don't believe a word of it.

I also got the same song and dance regarding the salt. But when I called Home Depot I found out that all the area stores had sidewalk salt available. Guess they just don't care enough to make sure we are safe. Not to mention I saw the snowplows with bags of salt in the backs of them, they just weren't using any of it - guess they were saving it for some where else.
