OK, but not worth it

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008

Been living here a year now, its not a bad place but there are definitely better, especially for the price.

Parking is great, tons of room on the outside buildings, kinda cramped in the middle though, i feel bad for them as it looks to be a fight to get a decent spot close to your place (big deal for those of us who are disabled but not enough to have the placard).

A bit noisy, i had a lot of issues with neighbors in the inner apartments coming home at later hours and letting the access doors slam, which were very loud and disturbing, i thought someone was breaking into my apartment many times when i heard it. The neighboring Condo complex has a bunch of jerks who don't seem to know what time it is when they want to get drunk and set off fireworks/explosives (at least once a month) and to top it off, said complex is in a different counties jurisdiction so we had to call Naperville police to get it taken care of which took a lot longer than the lisle police. We lived in the outer ring towards the back along the fence, and like other review state, it is much quieter here, other than the condos over the fence.

Maintenance is OK, they are fast but don't always fix things right away. We had issues with our air making a horrible rattling noise for months, put in a ticket to get it fixed about a month after it started and 5 months later it was done. They do not like to replace things, as we have had issues with our dryer and having to run it 2-3 times to get things dry (lint traps cleaned each time or its more). Their suggestion was to do smaller loads of laundry (which were already small to begin with) and to run the spin cycle an extra time or two instead of investing in units that actually work correctly (BIG thing for people who are interested in saving money on electric bills).

The fireplace was leaky when it rained (constant dripping noise, like dripping water on a metal sheet from 20 ft up), and drafty, very drafty in the winter(COLD AIR ONLY), to the point where we bought plastic window sealer sheets and just sealed it off. We tried using it in the winter and ended up smoking the whole house up, no matter if it was windy or not, or how the flu was set. The smoke wanted to be blown IN and not sucked out.

The grounds are appealing at first, but only during certain times of the year. Fall is nice because of the trees and the color, but in summer, the grass is half dead (probably because they mow it constantly) the trees seem lifeless, and overall it just looks like someone is halfheartedly trying to keep it up. The pool is kind of a joke, its small and not heated, so even on super hot summer days it is a bit chilly. The gym is OK, recently refurbished and has a decent amount of equipment but even in there a lot of things are dated. One good treadmill and 2 old ones are available, and you hardly ever see anyone using the old ones, preferring to wait for the newer one.

The groundskeepers are hired on from outside, they come in multiple times a week to do work, which can happen at any time from 6-7 am start to noonish start. The times they show up early is very annoying because they will mow, then blow the sidewalks off with leaf blowers for hours. They don't just blow the sidewalks off once and move on, they go over the same strip of walk at least 6 times. Not fun to try to sleep through, especially if you rarely get sleep as it is. Seems that the complex is wasting money on hours they spend going over and over things they don't need to...

The staff has changed a bit since we arrived, it seems it happens often, and even though they are bright and cheery to your face, if its on the phone its not as bright or cheery of a tone, regardless of what it is unless you are talking about giving them money for rent. We were late one month and they did not want to work with us to get things straight, which was a shame, and now we are leaving because of it.

Rent is another thing, the prices are rather high for what you are getting. We pay around 1250 a month for a 2 bed town home (on the outside corners of all the buildings) and it just inst worth it. water/trash is added into the rent which raises the price to something other than advertised (no biggie but its nice to know beforehand). Dont let the pet friendly thing fool you, only CERTAIN building complexes are allowed to have pets, so if one isn't available then you are out of luck.

If you work/commute in the city, move closer, if not, move away. Prices here in the burbs are getting to be that of California. If you can afford a small drive, save yourself the money and move out further west, as things out there are MUCH cheaper (usually $5-600 cheaper) and any gas you use wont be that much.

Edit 10/19/2008
In addition, we just got a letter in the mail stating that we have to pay the entire lease (about $10,000) after being evicted. From what i understand, the apartments are required by law to NOT let the unit sit unoccupied for longer than it takes to clean/re-rent it out. When the lawyer and i discussed things, i was told that i would pay no more than what i owed up to the day i was required to leave. I do believe this was stated in the court paperwork as well. Needless to say i will be investigating this matter and possibly wasting more time in court.

I dont care what good reviews there are here, those either come from management or blissfully ignorant people. This place is not one to go for. Heed all the warnings of people who had a bad time here, as that is a true gauge of a company. Posting positive reviews of your own complex is childish and rude, and for those of you who do not work for that company, be happy you havent seen the other side of that company.
