Pretty bad, but could be worse.

Hopefully people will recognize this as the Villages on Maple. I almost missed the listing myself as I was unaware this place was once named Shadowood Village.
I highly recommend not moving here. The management recently changed, and the new folks are horrible to deal with. It took 3 calls to the corporate headquarters (after the onsight management ignored us) just to get a bug guy out here. Yes, the bug problem here is big time bad. We've had 2 infestations of drain flies in the 6 months we've been here. When i say infestations, i mean I was killing 20 of these little flies everyday! Spiders, beetles and centipeeds have popped up often as well.
The interior of the buildings aren't particularly well maintained, but not bad enough to be a huge factor. The central air is only effective on the first floor (we're in the two-floor townhouse style apartment), the second floor has been outrageously hot.
The noise level from neighbors can be pretty bad too. I can clearly hear my surrounding neighbors. The people behind us have kids that seem to have made a sport out of running up and down the stairs. Not cool.
The exterior of the buildings are facelessly dull and surrounded by poorly maintained landscaping. Most of the grass around our area is brown as a result of renovators parking their trucks in our yards.
The surrounding area is fantastic and was the biggest draw to this place. Our particular unit is backed up along a large open field and right next door to the Lisle park district. I can't think of a better location.
All in all, it's a real shame that this place is so poorly run, as I really like the area and would like to stay... but the management is intolerably bad... and I absolutely hate bugs. For the money, this just is not worth it. I can't wait to move.
