Has Come a Long Way

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
I moved into Aspen Court Apartments in 2006. There were some initial problems, however, since then there have been many improvements. Initially internet connection seemed to be a joke, however great lengths have been taken to ensure problems are rectified. Fiber optic cable is currently being installed (This means that there wont be an information choke-point on the receiving end of the internet connection). Good internet service through fiber optic cable would be more than adequate, even for heavy bittorrent usage.
Maintainance is very efficient; if anything breaks, don't expect it to be broken for long.
Parking is an issue, as it is everywhere. You must plan in advance when you have guests. A parking pass for your guest may be obtained by contacting the main office. If you don't take this step, your guests will not find their car in the morning, and will be furious to learn their car has been towed.
Any other complaints that have been made are pretty much common for all apt. complexes. Considering that Macomb is full of first time renters (who know nothing about landlord tenant responsibilities), the landlords are taking a beating when it comes to these ratings.
Before you rent from Aspen Court Apts., understand that they have different locations and different types of units available. Know your lifestyle before selecting a unit. If you plan on doing a lot of partying, find more roomates and rent a townhome (insulation between units). Otherwise, get to know your neighbors right away, even before you have a problem with their noise (you will anywhere you rent in Macomb). If you like it somewhat quiet and secluded there are two Aspen Court apt. buildings on Wigwam Hollow that may be of interest.
The most important thing to improve your apartment living, would be to read and understand Illinois LANDLORD TENANT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES. If everyone read and understood these, there would be very few bad ratings on this website.
Aspen courts has hallways and areas that are used by everyone in the building (including the outside sidewalk). Know that when you rent an apartment, you are also renting partial responsibility over these areas. This means, when your neighbor makes a mess, everyone pays for it. In other words, you have to have a sense of community. This is your responsibility.
Keeping individual responsibility in mind, Aspen Court Apartments is a good deal, and comfortable place to live. You have a wide variety of location and unit types to choose from. Every unit has plenty of modern conveniences, which are relatively new. There are large mirrors in the bathrooms, with lots of counter space(ladies). Apartments are leased in a very clean condition, with the staff having strict guidelines on cleanliness and repair.
Also, feel free to contact apartment staff, when cleaning your apartment for check-out. There are a variety of tips and cleaning shortcuts, which the staff knows best.
My only recommendation is that the City of Macomb require recycling at all major apartment complexes.
