Overall pretty good

I've been living at The Colony for the past several years now. Being my first apartment I'm left with mostly good impressions.

For being located in the northern burbs it is priced very reasonably and is a great starter unit.

The one bedrooms are nice all be it a little small for my liking. The unit I have appears to have recently been outfitted with new cabinets which includes a small pantry area which is very nice. Living/dining/bedroom/bathroom are all sufficient and get good water pressure although it seems to go down in the winter.

Noise is at a minimum and there is never a problem with parking although I would like to see the lots a bit better lit. Maintaince is top notch answering service calls often in the same day. People in the rental office are nice although nothing special. Pool is very nice, but the workout room could use updated equipment.

Grounds are kept up with plenty of room for garbage disposal and is kept up especially in the summer when they plant many flowers along the grounds. Snow removal is adequate.

Storage is plentiful. A big plus is your own private outside entrance which is nice because it avoids the unpleasantness of smelling whatever 20 other people had for dinner the evening before in the hallway.

The downsides I would list although small are worth taking into consideration.

1. Drafty. Better bring some extra blankets for the winter.

2. As noted earlier a bit small for my liking.

3. No washer or dryer in unit.

4. This is the biggest one. In my unit there are what I describe as centipedes which make appearances during the summer months. You will prob find as many as 3 a week located anywhere from the floor to ceiling. Not sure if this is a big problem as I'm located on the first floor, but they are easily killed with a can of Raid.

Aside form those downsides I would strongly suggest this place to anyone looking to move into the north burbs (which can be pricing) as this place is a good deal for what you get.
