Here are my views on The Colony Apartments, I m new to Illinois, and I work at the O Hare airport so something that is close is best for me. My apartment resides away from the busy streets, so noise due to the busy streets is not an issue like other tenants; I also live on the top level so I have no idea how sound proof it would be to live on a lower level, but from the wall from my neighbor I never have issues with noise although I am use to the airplanes every other minute.
First, prices change everyday with this company for example... I could call one day and get a price for a one bedroom apt. for $860.00 and call tomorrow and it could be $890.00. Next you are only limited to one vehicle unless you and someone else both sign the lease, definitely not fare if your apartment resides in a place where there are ample amount of spaces for parking. They also have certain hours for visitors, disobey the hours or rules and your car will be TOWED, they tow daily; don t have a city sticker, have tinted windows, no front mounted license plate, sorry this is an easy targeted place for cops due to the overwhelming number of tenants.
The apartments are very nice apartments, with carpet, and they also come with a balcony and I always see plenty of maintenance around doing their job. One of my main problems with these units is lack of heat efficiency. When I arrived my heater would not shut off, so I had them install a new one, and then at night I realized that my front door was not sealing causing cold air to come in allowing the heater to constantly run/ I could see light from outside through the crack of the door. The heaters are electric mounted units like hotels but worse. They are definitely not efficient in any case and are expected to heat the whole apartment. When I called about this, management said it was nothing they could do. All tenants complain about this because it makes your electric bill outrageous even though you only pay for water and electric. Expect a bill over a hundred, hundred twenty, ect in the winter or 8 months out the year.
Other than that you could easily find a better deal than these, especially if you re on budget with this economy. This could easily be the perfect place for someone but for me I would rather find a better place still close to work, or stop throwing my money away and put it towards a townhouse/house, where you have more control over your finances, have multiple cars and also be able to work on them.
If you are management and you are reading this, please fix the heat so we can all stop complaining and I mean everybody; I even turn my heat off when I m not home too, and I m usually never home with all lights and power off, PLEASE install more efficient heaters or better yet you pay Comed for electric w/your stupid electric heaters, but don t raise my rent to compensate for it. One thing I forgot to add; some team players of management are very rude when talking to them.
Why did I write this' Because I needed to express myself and definitely vent from those electric bills, also hopefully someone will read this and hopefully be saved from a headache or be better prepared to dish out a lot of money for this place. But I guess if money is not an issue, then this may be the perfect place for you, as for me I have moved on : ) : D.
Whoa .. Now I feel a lot better now, Have a nice life : )
