Was very happy here

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
Moved in mid 2003 only left when my lease was up because I bought a condo.
Very nice place to live. The balconette was a bit of a joke but hey. Ground floor units have a full size patio.
My unit was a one bedroom one bath and had new oak cabinets in all rooms and new ceramic tile in the eat-in kitchen and bathroom. My appliances were also fairly new. Why they left the old medicine cabinet in the bathroom when they already updated everything else I will never understand.
My living room was huge as was my bedroom. Maintenance for my unit was excellent. When I had a problem they had it repaired within 24 hours. My only complaint was when I called the office to ask why my kitchen phone jack would work but the phone jacks in my living room and bedroom wouldn't I was told that they only support the one in the kitchen. Why then leave the other jacks in there' That was my only complaint however.
The sliding glass door and my bedroom window didn't shield from the elements during winter all that well. (Old metal sliding door and old metal sliding window. Nothing horrible but could be better) Thankfully with the free heat and free air conditioning it wasn't an issue. I had my unit cooled to 68 degrees all summer and it didn't cost me anything extra. One thing to note with the A/C however, you do control your own temperature but the A/C is on when they turn it on. There was a couple of days at the beginning of summer when I moved where they did not turn it on just yet. Make sure to have a fan on hand. It wasn't unbearable at all so long as you had a fan.
Soundproofing was great. I would hear my neighbor to the left turning on water in the bathroom (just pipe noise) and my neighbor to the right slamming cabinet doors (very very faintly) on occasion but nothing beyond that. I did hear noise from the hallway however. Most people were considerate of this and would try to stay quiet.
I also rented a garage space which was very nice. Parking outside could be a bit of a competitive sport at this complex. Partially since most people are not aware (and neither was I until I moved) that there is parking at the Huntington Towers complex that's designated for Huntington Square residents. It's very close to a few buildings but people don't know it's there. Probably a way for management to talk people into garages. When I complained about parking to the management they did not mention these extra spaces. Oh well, I decided a garage would be great for the winter anyway. I would like to see management start assigned parking for outdoor parking spots and designate the more remote parking spots as visitor spots to help ease the parking woes.
I did have to call maintenance once for my garage door not closing, nothing jammed in the track or anything. Just refused to work. It was about 10:30 at night. I argued with a man's wife who didn't have a great command over the English language that yes he needed to fix this door so it would go down tonight. I didn't have anything in my garage aside from my car however my garage mate did have some bicycles, a grill and a few other things that I don't think they would've appreciated being out in the open for anyone to take. What was funny was I had to run out and get something at the office. I came back to find the door closed. "Great they fixed it!" So I opened it, parked and went to close it. Door refused to close again. I grabbed the remote and hit the button and hung from the door until it closed. Door worked perfectly and problem did not reoccur afterwards (I showed it who was boss)
My building had five coin operated washers and five coin operated dryers. $1.00 to wash and $1.00 to dry. All standard side Speed Queen units. The washers usually worked fine. The dryers were hit or miss. Once there was a dryer that was out of order every week I went to do laundry. I contacted the office weekly. After four weeks the dryer was fixed. Another occasion I went to use the facilities and did two light loads of laundry. Both dryers did not dry my clothes. This was all assuming I could even get a washer/dryer since most people liked to occupy every single machine when they were in there. I took my laundry business to Golf Road Laundromat (right by Aldi and Valley Produce a couple of miles down Golf Road towards Arlington Heights) I would've liked to see newer washers and dryers with card based systems in place. I don't know if this was a maintenance issue or an issue with how old the machines were. Don't know what you can do about inconsiderate people who take every machine. Maybe with a card system they could be limited to two or three machines at a time.
I had a couple of instances where my unit was entered without what I felt was proper notice. Once for a safety inspection. I came home at about 4:30 and didn't see anything posted about it. Left the next morning at 8 and saw a posting about them coming in that day to check things like smoke detectors n'stuff. My place was a mess but I was very late for work and couldn't run back up to clean it. I wasn't too happy about that. They did a similar thing when painting the unit doors. I think they received complaints about that though because a friend of mine who lives a few buildings down received a notice about a week in advance that they were going to enter her apartment for preventative maintenance against rodents. Based on that I'd say this problem appears to be a thing of the past.
I loved how convienent the place was to a lot of nearby stores.
Management was very friendly and helpful. They also listened to what I had to say about the place. I think Michelle and Virginia did a GREAT job.
Oh and when I moved I got my entire security deposit back. I did make certain to leave the place in as good of condition as I found it in however.
Would I recommend this place to anyone' YES! For any faults this complex has it's still a GREAT place for someone to rent at. The price is right. Free water, free individually controlled heat, free individually controlled A/C, free cooking gas. Well maintained overall and mostly nice people live there.
Again like all places it does have it's faults but the good far outweighs the bad and they are improving. No place you live will be perfect, especially an apartment complex where you're dealing with many other people.
I would rent here again.
