Miserable Management, Miserable Apartments

This review is for the "Mansions" Apartments, the reddish brick three-story buildings surrounding the pond. Actually in Arlington Heights and different from the "Mount Shire" buildings.

I have lived there for over three years and it has been a miserable experience. The apartments look like a real deal, but they're more trouble than they're worth. One major problem with these apartments is that the floors are old, thin, squeaky and creaky and people above me stomp and thunder on the floors so much so that the whole building literally shakes. Covers have actually fallen off light fixtures because the shaking is so bad. Sometimes it sounds like they're dropping bowling balls on the floor. This has been the case with the last four tenants above me. They wake me up each morning at 6:00 and the stomping continues throughout the morning and entire day. Today, they woke up at 5:15am and stomped for an hour. This is something you would never know about from just looking at the apartments.

The so-called "management" is the worst in the area. Just ask to see the pages and pages of "rules," "fines," long list of exhorbitant charges for damages and how much it will cost to terminate your lease early even if you have lived there for years. That says it all. The tenant is the enemy. Everyone I have dealt with in the office has been bad: mean, miserable, snarly people. The staff seems to turn over every few months so there's a real problem somewhere.

Depending on what part of the complex you are in, parking is totally inadequate and if you arrive late, you cross half the complex to find a space. On weekends, when just a few people have guests, parking is non-existant.

Security is also a major problem. Shortly after I moved in, my car was spray-painted and broken into and they tore up the dash to steal the radio.

Appliances and heating/cooling are old and decrepit. The decor is long outdated. No garbage disposals in apartments. Geese leave their calling cards all over the sidewalks and grounds. The list goes on.
And, yes, I have had mice. Trapped 3 of the critters myself.

This is one place I would definitely avoid. When my current lease expires, I am out of here.

How are the utilities in the winter, with the electric heat I mean? Also, you really have seen mice in the "mansions"? What do you know about the pet building?
Please get back to me about the mansions at: luke.madsen@mayo.edu
I am going to be attending medical school this fall and considered the mansions for an aparment, but have no ties to it yet.

Utilities in the winter are awful. We complained so often that they finally put plastic on the windows. But that didn't seem to do anything. It's nice and cozy in the apartment if you don't mind paying 300 electric bills.
I haven't seen mice but heard management comment on them.
There is a serious insect problem. And it isn't just a few flys and ants. They are these centipide things with 10 thousand legs. Nasty I tell you. Our first month here, we had a maggot problem. They were crawling up from a crack in the floor. When we complained to management, they came in and said they weren't "maggots" they are "little white worms". Yeah, that makes me feel so much better. AVOID THIS PLACE. I haven't even moved out yet, and they are telling me I'm going to have to pay all kinds of fees when I do.

I am planning on making this a serious issue. I have had mice in my apt for the past five months and they have done nothing about it. I am reporting it to the village hall and I am submitting an article about this apartment in the Daily Herald. I would like if I could get more info from other tenants. If you currently still live at this apartment, please contact me at soumya2381@yahoo.com
