Apts are okay...but renter beware...

I?m in the last month of a 13-month lease, and I wouldn?t renew under any circumstances. I agree with the previous review...the office staff kisses your ass to get your signature on a lease...yet treat you like dirt after that. They are not a people friendly group, and only seem interested in dealing with people when trying to get tenants to sign a lease! Once you?ve established residency in SWC, the happy faces all disappear.
Other issues to consider:
1) Rents are terribly high. Shop around before deciding on SWC. There are many vacancies in the complex. You can negotiate a lesser rate of rent (on both apartment and garage) if you aren?t afraid to push the property manager. Also, referrals from another tenant run from $500 to a full months rent, so try to split a referral with an existing tenant.
2) Moving requires a 60-day notice. There is no "out" clause for relocation due to a change in employment. This has been a big issue for me. In addition, I was informed on the day that I moved out, that my deposit would not be returned for another 45 to 60 days...even though I gave a full 60-day notice to vacate.
3) The carpet in the apartments are very cheap, and stain easily.
4) Upon moving out, SWC expects the apartment to be in "perfect" condition, or it may cost you all or part of the deposit. This includes having a very clean carpet...yet they are going to charge the next tenant a "setup" fee to ready the apartment for occupancy. They get you coming, and going.
5) I was told when I originally rented that upon expiration of the lease, I could renew on a "month to month" basis. I?m now at the end of my lease...and SWC management is now only offering a minimum of a 3-month lease. This is another indication of lying to get you in the door...and reality proving to be something else.
6) The location isn?t great. Traffic is horrible during morning and afternoon rush hour.
7) And for the record...if you check out the next review for SWC (the one dated 05/09/02), there is no question in my mind that it was written by someone working for SWC. No tenant that I've spoken to, and I've spoken to a number of them, feels that way about the complex. And SWC does NOT offer luxury apartments. It's just your basic fare...for a great deal of money.
