Well, to give credit where credit is due, I will start out with the positives of living at Brittany Springs. The maintenance staff is FANTASTIC. They are very quick to respond, no matter what the time (I had a couple instances of a broken down heater during the winter on a weekend). They are very friendly, and willing to help. I also appreciated that they gave me a couple extra weeks to decide on renewing my lease while my job was in flux in these times of economic uncertainty...
Now for the terrible... I lived in this complex for 3years. It was my intent to, at some point, buy a home. When President Obama recently signed the economic stimulus package into law, it provided a perfect opportunity for me to make that happen with the added incentive of $8,000 to do it. After being a reliable tenant with no complaints against me, and allowing them to continually raise my rent every year to much more than they were even charging new residents, they made it very clear that they were COMPLETELY unwilling to allow me to sign a shorter term lease while I look for a new home. The manager explained the situation to me from a business standpoint, which, as a businessman myself, I COMPLETELY understand. But I must admit that I feel personally betrayed, and wish that I had not recommended this place to so many of my fellow coworkers. A couple of their direct quotes were:
"It does not do us any good to lock you in for a couple months when we can have someone else in for >9"
"There is NO way we could possibly give you a lease for a shorter duration"
Now again, I understand the business case, but as a loyal resident, even going so far as referring coworkers, exceptions CAN be made. Shoot, I would have even paid a couple hundred extra dollars per month for the flexibility!! Knowing my aversion to commitment, I probably would have been there for a year longer anyway, HA! I even had a schizophrenic neighbor (clinically, thats why I did not push the issue too hard) that I complained about on several occasions whose favorite phrase to yell all day (does not work, so has plenty of time for it) at the top of her lungs while banging on the walls was a disgusting racial slur attached to several curse words. You fill in the blanks. No further complaints from me though, as they said they 'sent her a letter to stop', which did nothing.
The bottom line is this: I work for a multi-billion dollar machinery company. We have rules and processes in place for just about everything. However, when a reasonable request comes from a historically good customer, we make EVERY effort to oblige, even if it means a little discomfort and understanding that we will not benefit as much as we could. I wish things could have been different Brittany, but you really F-ed me good now that I have to move twice just to have the American dream and own a home. Thanks for nothing. SROlYjGrgm2VnM-SactV

We lived here and experienced rising rental rates too. It was disappointing to watch them offer new tenants these great specials to move in, only to jack up the rate nearly $100 at renewal time. If they charged new and old tenants similar rates, they would keep good tenants. We saw so many of our neighbors move just because of the increases at renewal time. Nice people - quiet neighbors - and they left because it was crazy to pay the renewal rate. Some people would switch units every year or two just to keep the rental amount reasonable. It makes no sense. Isn't it cheaper for the landlord to keep people in their units? When someone moves out - they need to get new tenants, paint and clean the carpeting! By keeping the old tenants, they could save themselves on wear and tear and maintenance costs. They would also know they have good tenants and not have to take chances on new people or spend time filling vacancies.Be careful if you decide to rent here. Don't let them just show you the model. Insist on seeing your unit or a vacant unit. Neighbors who never saw their units regretted it. Those who saw their units before moving in could at least be prepared for issues. The model doesn't always look like what you get. You may get old carpet or maintenance issues.
