As far as apartments go, Brookdale Village is a pretty decent place to live. Most of our neighbors, and other people I've met in the complex, are very nice and approachable. I have never met anyone I felt was a shady character, which is very important to me. It is also very pet friendly, which is awesome if you are a pet lover. In the summer, the ducks from the pond always make their way through the buildings and it's fun to stop and throw them some bread when they pass by our door. There have been some minor problems with neighbors playing music too loudly or reving their car/motorcycle engines on the weekends, but for the most part it has not been too excessive or out of control. And yes, you can hear when someone upstairs flushes a toilet, and when the air conditioner kicks in, but I don't consider those things really worth complaining about, they're just normal issues.. it's definately not something I'd not live here over. Compared to the last complex we lived in (Four Lakes in Lisle, IL), Brookdale Village is a paradise. There does seem to be alot of ants in the summer, as a previous review stated, and we also have had a mice problem in the winter (we are on the first floor), so plan on buying ant traps and/or mouse traps. Minor maintenance issues are usually ignored unless you harass the office. I would recommend calling the emergency maintenance line if you need anything ASAP, then they will respond right away. We luckily haven't had too many issues though, just two or three. We've lived here now for 2 years, and we plan to renew our lease again this year.

In my opinion, for the money that we pay, these "Minor" issues should not be.
