Complaints, but benefits may outweigh them

I think there will always be complaints about places like this. Whoever has absolutely no complaints about Brookdale either rarely spent time there or has exceptionally low standards.
There are some negatives at Brookdale on the Park (current name) to be sure. It is an older development, and most cons stem from this fact. Yes, the apartments are drafty in winter (do it yourself insulating helps.) Yes, many ants find their way in (they do offer to fumigate.) Yes, you will hear all sorts of noises on lower apartment from above (go for second floor apartment if you can) and also between walls in units (usually not a problem except when people blast their av systems.) Yes, air conditioners/heating are quite loud within apartments (hard to talk or hear tv) and outside (if this could bother you don't move in a courtyard) and unfortunately they don't replace old units with quiet ones (like they have at some newer places.) Yes, there are younger people who make more noise than most after hours and in the public areas, but it's random. Even if you get a bunch of rowdy kids next door, they don't spend that much time at home.
Now, for the good stuff. The proximity to I-88, the Metra station and downtown Naperville (a vibrant town with much to do) is extremely convenient. Brookdale on the Park is situated in a privileged subdivision which is safe, with plenty of parks and at walking (or biking) distance to forest preserves with an awesome trail system. You will always see people running, walking dogs and biking in the area which gives it a nice, neighborhood feeling. Being an older development also has its flip side. The mature landscaping is attractive all year round and is pretty well kept. You might enjoy the birds, ducks, geese and bunnies that abound. Also, the units themselves (and clubhouse) are comfortable, tastefully decorated and many have nice views.
I have had my share of complaints at Brookdale but I think you may find, like I do after one year of the good and the bad, that the benefits this community offers do much to minimize the detriments. I would not settle in on a permanent basis (and might find more to complain about) but while I need to be a renter in this area Brookdale is probably one of the better choices around.

Being a current renter at Brookdale on The Park, I will agree with this post. About the ants, I found a quick stop at Menards to pick up Home Defense and do my own spraying in the kitchen, bathroom and around the baseboards basically cut the ants to maybe one a week. For those of you that are pet owners, this is a safe spray to use, just read the safety precautions. The complex does offer nice views if you are lucky enough to get a pond view. Biggest negative is the parking, but if you are willing to walk to your unit you can find parking.
