Rude staff and not willing to work...

I found an ad in the paper for a sublet on a 2-bedroom apt for a decent price, I went to view it with the couple that currently rents there and I fell in love with it. I felt it to be an ideal situation and easily affordable so we approached the rental office together looking to get the lease signed over to me. My credit, admittedly not the greatest was told that I would not be able to rent. I was then very bluntly and rudely told that "Country Lakes doesn't allow co-signers" by a curt young man, after I explained my credit situation and offered to have a multi-million dollar (family member) co-signer apply with me. I was then further offended when he told me that "Country Lakes only wants people that can take care of their own money situations". The approach that was taken was very stand-offish, I was brushed off in a matter of seconds when I have good money to spend on one of their units. If the cold shoulder approach of their "welcoming staff" is indicative of what to expect while living there, then I am probably better off, judging from some of the other negative comments.

This doesn't surprise me. My sister and I paid our rent on time all 24 months we were at this community. There were other MAJOR issues but figured it would just be easier to stay than to move again and the rent was pretty cheap. Then my sister was going to move out and my boyfriend in and b/c I had filed for bankruptcy in that 2-year period we weren't allowed to renew. And they did NOT give us any more than 3 weeks before telling us we had to be out. The bankruptcy was on OLD stuff when I was 18 and I just couldn't pay off after MANY years of trying. I had enough for rent, utilities and food but not for all these old bills. They were rude, didn't take into consideration the good track record we had for 2 years. It worked out for the best anyway but at the time we were furious. There are LOTS places that WON'T look down on you for a bankruptcy. Just ask the question and be up front about your past credit problems. If they are friendly about it then you know at least you are at a better place. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Country Lakes isn???t the greatest place to live and I was surprised they cared about the bankruptcy after all the scum I came across in 2 years. You just never know where life is going to take you. Good Luck!!
