Good for the Location

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
We've lived here for two years, my husband, toddler, and myself. We like the location, (close to the train, shopping, etc) but I feel like they are charging too much for what we have. We're moving this year because they want to increase our rent but we have moldy-smelling a/c units, the counter is breaking away from the wall "due to settling of the building" the management says, we have terribly loud upstairs neighbors, and they let their toddler pour soda through the upstairs balcony onto our grill & my husband's new scooter. The management hasn't done much about it, and when we call too much they tell us to write a formal complaint letter. The maintenance staff is SUPER friendly, and they are so fast at fixing any problems or coming to check stuff out (even if it's piddly little stuff) and we didn't have to wait more than a day to get a new dryer when ours broke. They did give us an older dryer as a replacement, but it dries faster than the even OLDER one we had before.
When we first moved in, we moved into the apartment and it was infested with fleas from the previous occupant but the management didn't know. We didn't know what it was that was biting me (they only liked me), and they hibernate during the winter, so we lived here for almost the full two years with massive flea infestation going on. The apartment complex came and sprayed, but seriously - it was so bad (we don't have any pets!) I couldn't put my son on the floor, and I couldn't keep my legs on the floor. I had hundreds of bites, which are now hundreds of scars on my legs. It looks horrible. FINALLY after complaining and having failed attempts to spray our apartment, the management paid for us to stay in a hotel for three days while they flea-bombed our apartment. That got rid of the fleas! I think to have a fair point of view, they did what they could because they didn't know there was a flea infestation... but at the same time, if they knew the people before had pets, shouldn't they check for something like that' Especially paired with complaints from the next occupant'
Overall the neighbors can be pretty good - we've had some loud ones across the hall who have had the police at their place several times (college students), but you don't really see much of the other tenants.
I have to say I feel really safe here though. We never have any problems with safety!
Landscaping could be better... just because I see a lot of bushes in front of the buildings (and the one right in front of our patio) are dead and brown, but they haven't been replaced or watered or anything. Some places they just ripped them up and left a stubby little nub in the ground for the bush.
Heats really easily in the winter. Takes a minute to cool the apartment down with the a/c units but I'm sure the apartments with central air would be better. vWhRVi5nYYIuEh4W7K3l
