Waterford Greens - Friendly Community

I was looking to leave downtown Chicago, and get a bit more greenery and quiet community living...a place that I could call home. Waterford Greens was literally, the first place that I looked at. Judi was the management staff that I met when I came to look, and she made sure she showed me all that the complex had to offer. She was honest and frank with me, and I trusted her opinion as she lives in the complex herself. She showed me a one bedroom first floor, and I fell in love with it. Great for one person or a couple, all the amenities I could have hoped for, and on appearance...a nice community. I put my deposit down right away, and Judi worked with me to make sure that my move in was as smooth as possible.

Since moving in, I have to say, (and I have just signed my lease for another year) that I happen to think this is a great spot. Unlike downtown Chicago, I've met most of my neighbors, both in my building and around the complex. People out during their daily routines, and walking pets, and they are all very friendly people.

When I learned that we could plant gardens, and make it our own, I went wild with the little plat of green in front of my windows, and it makes it even more so like home. I enjoy being able to come home, and go out in the garden and fuss with it, enjoy the day and the people walking by with their pets, and it indeed, reminds me very much of home. It feels like home.

I've only had two major issues since I'd moved in, which, being community living with shared common walls, and as appliances age and get used, it has to be expected. My dryer decided to go on the fritz, and a neighbor had drain clog that overflowed and dampened our common floor area. Calls were made, I was given a clear time frame in which said issues could/wouldbe addressed, and they were indeed resolved. Anything that I am ever curious about when it comes to the maintenance of the apartment, if I have asked of the maintenance or the management staff, I have been given a clear answer, and it is addressed. The maintenance staff has never been anything more than courteous and friendly with me.

The management staff, as well, has always been very friendly with me, and gone out of their way for me (ex.: management office closes just before I get home from work, and I've had packages, I just call, and someone either waits for me, or has dropped the package inside my apartment at my request). Any issues or concerns, someone has always called back, and checked up to make sure said issue or concern was taken care of.

The only time I've encountered what could be considered noise related issues has been when it's been a holiday, say, 4th of July...and that is too be expected. But nothing has ever been so outrageous or intolerable. In fact, my neighbors, being that we are in a community building, are very concious, and have asked, "am I too noisy, if I am, just knock and let me know." The residents I have met, have a common courtesy and respect for each other as well. "I'm going on vacation, could you just watch to make sure nothing goes wrong." I do indeed find it to be almost like a little family community.

I have been out very late around this complex and the surrounding areas and never encountered any problems. It's well lit and there is more than plenty parking, sidewalks aplenty.

I do agree maybe more could be done with the grounds, but then again, I am more than happy with being able to "maintain/keep" my own personal spot outside. I'm proud of my little space, and enjoy that others in this complex take pride in their spaces as well. I think it's great that this complex allows us to essentially 'personalize' our little spots.

Location and price, amenities and community, residents and staff, we are completely worth a look.

I've enjoyed my time here, and plan to stay probably until I can buy a home. Being fair in all, if my opinions on any of the above ever changes, I will come back and report again. But this is my second year here, and I have no complaints thus far, I think it's an excellent place to live.
