Nice, but still an apartment!!!

I have been here a year and overall it has been the nicest apartment complex that I have lived in. That said it is still an apartment, and with the "apartment" thing there are typical issues.

When I moved in, the unit needed a bit of work. I got a really good deal on the rent, which I now know is because I have pretty old appliances. Old meaning my dryer, dishwasher and stove are from the 80's my washer from the early 90's. After several maintenance calls they are in "working order". I do know that many other apartments have all new appliances or at least from this century, but they don't usually offer good deals on rent in those units.

The building itself is kept up nice, always clean, the major drawback is that the walls are paper thin and when a door is slammed somewhere in the building my whole apartment shakes - you should see how the pictures on my wall move everyday!

Storage lockers are ok, kinda small but they serve the purpose.

I'm on the top floor and away from Rand Rd, so the Rand noise is basically negligible and the larger townhouses and coach houses are pretty close. I haven't had any real safety issues from the complex per se, but have run into issues with odd individuals from the Williams Reserve and the shopping plaza on Rand.

Parking is nice because you have an assigned spot, but there are some extremely inconsiderate individuals with oversized work vehicles that park in the assigned spot and take up most of your spot as well. They claim there is a 3 car limit per apartment, I know for a fact the one next to me has two work vehicles and two personal vehicles, but the oversized work one is always in the assigned spot and I can never get in or out of that side of my car. Visitor spaces are at a premium obviously, the only way to avoid this is to park by the leasing office and walk. Other than that I don't see any horrible lighting issues, just have to watch out for the people who speed in and out of the parking lot.

I live in a pet friendly building. There were really no problems until some lady moved in a few months back with a smaller dog that barks all the time. I know most of us in the building have complained but nothing has changed. She yells at it but I don't know what she thinks she is accomplishing. It needs some serious obedience training for starters, not to mention it is left alone for the majority of the day. There are 3 other dogs in the building along with mine that don't really bark much, but then again they are not left on their own all the time.

At first this was a really quiet building, now there are new tenants in two of the apartments on the second floor that have recently moved in and are extremely disrespectful. Yelling, slamming doors, pounding on walls - I have no idea what they are doing, but every night and on the weekends they are making a ton of noise. I never heard anything from the apartment below me until they moved in. The prior tenants worked out of the apartment and had a dog, but I never heard anything. I travel alot or work so I only home 2-2.5 weeks a month, and it sucks to come home to this racket now. I don't know what the heck they were doing tonight but I had a stack of DVD cases on my table (a good 3 inches away from the edge) and all the pounding made them fall off. At this moment I can hear their TV word for word and the arguement they are having over the tv noise as well. Maybe someday I can write a TV mini series with the issues I can hear from down there!

There are some creepy people across the hall where my neighbors and I think about 8 different people live in there. It's a real weird situation and they are quite noisy at times - especially when they are playing electric guitar for the rest of us to hear.

The management here is pretty responsive for the most part. In fact they are more responsive than the majority of management companies. As far as the noise I guess there is only so much they can do, as this is an apartment complex.

My lease is up for renewal soon and I am still on the fence about staying. It is pretty nice but lately has gone downhill. They said rents are going up a bit for next year which is making think twice with all the issues lately. I guess there is always looking into another building.

Overall I would recommend this place- they layouts are nice and spacious, the full size washer and dryer are great even if they are ancient the management company is better than most out there, I would just really inquire about the building you are moving into - families, pets etc... and see if you can talk to a resident or two.
