I have lived at Clover Ridge for almost two years, and after reading many of the posts, I agree with the one who said, Everything isn't "PERFECT" by a long shot, but it's not the worse place in the world.
I whole-heartedly agree, it all depends on the building you are in. Since I am a tennant of color, there were numerous problems with tenants and my teenage son. In the beginning, I sided on the side of error in favor of the complex and sent my son to live elsewhere, as my kids know, I will take an adults word over theirs for the most part. The management at Clover Ridge has completely changed my way of thinking.
I found out that the kids that had broken into the clubhouse "told" management that my son was responsible for letting them in but he was not there. I should have known something was amiss when I asked them to trace who had swiped in at that time, since a card key is required to enter the bulding after hours, when the incident was alleged to have taken place but was never given an answer.
Two months later, the same boys who "told" management it was my son, also used that same excuse when stealing from a local business in the neighborhood. Unlike management, they didn't take the boys word for it and called the police, the detectives got a copy of the picture of the person who had stolen from the business and paid me a visit. Not only was it NOT my son, he could prove he was in school at the time and the detectives pulled him out of class and saw for themselves it was clearly NOT him. I understand that they DID catch the boy that was in the picture and that boy DID live in the complex.
There were several people in our building who just did NOT want a teenager in "their" building and one even went so far as to approach my son and tell him, he thought he had told enough lies to get him kicked out of the building, what was he still doing there. He has since moved.
These people lied and said my son was a gang-banger, he was selling crack, he was doing everything under the sun he had NEVER done, but all of a sudden, when he got to Clover Ridge, he decided to become king of the drug-dealing gang-bangers. I guess what is disappointing is, there was NO proof my son had done anything, and yet, they were threatening ME with eviction. It's sad to think someone can say anything and management will take their side no proof needed.
However, there is a couple downstairs from us now that have the police at their house every other week. On several occassions they have come with guns drawn! I was at the theater one night and must have gotten 15 calls from people telling me there were tons of police cars outside my building with shot guns and wondering if me and the kids were OK. My teenaged daughter was home at the time, but somehow this is NOT a problem since they are caucasian I guess.
I am not one to play the race card. I have grown up in a predominantly white town all my life and have white members of my family. It doesn't matter to me, but you can definately tell when it does to other people.
Recently I was given 45 days to move because
I did NOT want to sign another lease, I preferred to go month to month. So in an attempt to force me to sign another lease, they are not allowing me to pay month to month. Fine, I will leave Clover Ridge and not look back.
My first apartment, which was a one bedroom, was great, I had no complaints, but it was a temporary fix until we could move into a two bedroom. The two bedroom we moved into had stains on the carpeting, a black line down the middle of the tub where the enamel has worn out and I had to keep pestering them about my washing machine until they FINALLY replaced it after almost a year of complaining that the smell of it was making me ill.
The doors are crazy! The cracks at the bottom of the front doors are so large you can put your whole arm under them. So do not say anything in your living or dinning room that you don't want anyone in the hallway to hear, because it's impossible, even if you whisper.
I am a STICKLER for holding the second floor door and will have not so nice words if my kids let the door slam. I wish other neighbors were as considerate, but I think since I make such a big deal out of it, the other neighbors have caught on and tend to catch the door now. Otherwise, it shakes the whole building.
I asked a particular office worker on three different occasions to put up a sign asking people not to smoke in the hallways, as when I came out of my door one day (I'm asthmatic) one of my neighbors informed me he was smoking in front of my door (remember, there's a crack the size of the grand canyon under the door) because his wife doesn't allow him to smoke in their home. No note was ever circulated until this week when someone accused MY son of smoking (on a day when he wasn't even at my house, he was in the city attending a concert!) then guess what, a note was put by the front door, imagine that!
I have also asked so many times I have lost count, that a light over our front door be replaced. For two weeks, nothing, I called again, after coming home and finding Paramedics going to an apt on the first floor and one of them tripped up the step because it was so dark. After relaying that message, they came out and fixed the light to the left of the door. It had been out so long I had forgotten it was even there! It has been over four months now and the light over the doorway...still not fixed!
One thing that struck me, and many of my neighbors, is that Clover Ridge does not reward loyalty. Every year they raise the rent on their loyal tenants and for people like me who want to go month to month after completing my lease, they try to take us to the cleaners instead of trying to keep our business. Clover Ridge will continually have a high turn-over rate until they learn how to treat their tennants, and that's too bad. It's a fun environment some times, and I like that the girls in the office know just about everyone by name. I give them two more years before they become low-income housing as they are witnessing high turn-over even among their staff. It's a shame, because this COULD be a great place to live.
