Mid-America is the worst

Our complex is converting to condos. We recently were told that there was someone interested in our unit and if we did not want to buy it we would have to sign a waiver of right of first refusal so they could sell it. Promised we would get 48 hours notice before bringing anyone in to view the apartment. Two weeks later we get only a 24 hour notice that someone wants to see the apartment to buy it - the notice was pre-dated for 3 days earlier. They show up a 1/2 hour late and bring a real estate broker with them and an inspector. We should have thrown them out, but did not know at the time what our rights were. If the notice said it was a showing, then that's all they were entitled to do! The person from Midwest Equities stayed in the front room while these people were touring the rest of the apartment unsupervised. Then the inspector starts turning on all the appliances, running the dishwasher, turning on the stove and oven, ran the dryer, flushed the toilets, practically took our furnace apart, turned on the heat, etc. The real estate broker said he needed our phone number so he could call us about where to send the rent check - so we gave him our phone number. OK that was not too bright, but we had no way of knowing what was going on - no one told us anything. Turns out the person trying to buy the unit has no right to see our lease, know how much we are paying, or contact us in any way. But that did not stop the broker from calling us and asking if we were moving soon. When we called the office to complain, the girl - Karen - thought it was just so funny and kept giggling as I explained what happened. I told her I was glad she found it so amusing. Property Manager was on vacation, but this Karen promised to have her call me. She never got the message. A week later the maintenance crew shows up to fix a leaky seal in the bathroom - we never called for maintenance to come in. They said it was noticed during the inspection and that it had to be done before closing. This is a terrible way to treat tenants who have lived here for over 7 years - and all Mid-America and their agents do is deny they know anything about it and they keep apologizing. But nothing changes and we feel very violated. Our lease has to be honored by whoever buys this unit - but we're strongly thinking about getting out as soon as we can. You really don't want to live here and put up with the same crap from this management company. Turn and run!!
