Don't be fooled like I was - look elsewhere.

Runaway Bay has one new building (it was rebuilt after a fire) which has nice, large, brand new apartments. When I found them I couldn't believe how large they were compared to other apartments in the area...and they were cheaper than some smaller places I'd looked. My wife and I needed the extra space, so we moved in.

Big mistake. I was lured in by the nice, new, large apartments. I figured that no place was perfect, so even if something else was wrong with Runaway Bay I could get over it just because I got such a good apartment. But like some of the other people have said here, the manager is the WORST person I've ever had to deal with. Sure, she was so nice before we moved in, but since then I've been treated with nothing but absolute disrespect. I loathe calling in for maintenance because I get treated like I'm such a pain in her side.

Once the building had NO WATER for TWO days straight. There had been no notice that they were planning on shutting off the water, and once it was shut off, there was no notice as to when it would be back on. So on my way out to a friends' place to take a shower I see the maintenance people working on the problem. I kindly asked if they had an idea of when the water would be turned back on, and they guy looked at me and said "When it's back on." What a jerk.

Do I like having the extra space' Yes. Do I like being treated like a CUSTOMER' Yes. Does Runaway Bay treat their tenants like customers' No, we're treated like scum.

Also, don't even think about trying to break your lease early to get out. We found a house we wanted to buy with 4 months left on our 14-month lease. I asked how much it would cost to get out of my lease early and they wouldn't let me. I would have to pay the last 4 months rent (over $4000!!). And the property manager made sure I knew that if I moved out early and didn't pay the rent, not only would I lose my deposit ($1000), but she would have the company lawyers take me to court. We couldn't afford to pay that AND a house payment, so we couldn't buy the house. Now we're stuck. It's not easy to find an affordable house around here, so it was pretty heartbreaking. And they couldn't care less, and they make sure you know they don't care. Their attitude is "screw you, give me my money and shut up."

I can't wait to move.

Oh, and I know this isn't Runaway Bay's fault, but the apartment complexes next to Runaway Bay are so LOUD that you can't think.
