I lived at Village Park of Palatine from 2002-2003. When we originally moved in to the area, the neighborhood didn't seem bad at all. Actually, it seemed like more of a yuppie neighborhood that was a good place to raise kids. As time went by, that assumption proved to be wrong.

My boyfriend's car was broken into in the parking lot, and his car stereo was stolen. A few months after that my car was vandalized in an attempt to break in (rear window shattered-thief unsuccesful.) If that wasn't enough, one night after I had come home I heard a crash in the parking lot. When we went outside to see what the trouble was, we realized that someone had run into the dumpster enclosure as well as my parked car (this person then proceeded to leave the seen of the accident and was later aprehended).

When I went to court for the accident, the courtroom I was in was only hearing Palatine cases. Before my case was up, I heard another case and found out that day that one of the staff from Village Park was arrested and fired for throwing a party in one of the vacant apartments.

To add to all of this, the parking situation is terrible. Much of this is attributed to the fact that no one keeps track of how many people are living in one apartment.

Another note- When I moved in here, I was being charged $865 for a one bedroom apartment. If you look online they are now offering the same apartment for about a hundred less. Kind of makes you wonder.
Note to renter- You can find two bedroom apartments in the area for the cost of this one bedroom.

Another issue was the bug infestation. I called the office twice about the bug issue I was having. They claimed to have sent Anderson Pest Control out twice, but I still had a really horrible bug infestation that we just had to learn to live with. The problem was that we had carpenter ants (which don't fit inside ant traps), and carpenter ants come from water damage on rotting wood (our entire cieling was warped from water damage). The really sad part is, that the leasing manager brought over a lawyer, unannounced, at 10:00 on a Saturday morning to look at our roof (we were still sleeping- they didn't even call).

Oh- and another thing- The key cards you get for the gate are a rip off. They charge you a deposit on them, but the entry gates are always broken. You can just drive on through and no one would notice.

The one thing that I will commend this apartment on is the maintenance staff. The maintenance staff are reliable, and down to earth. I felt comfortable with them being in our home. They were always friendly, helpful, and courteous.

I guarantee you that this is all true. I know that it is a lot to swallow, but this apartment complex is so poorly managed. If you rent here, you will be kicking yourself in the a** later.
