Not the best, but not the worst

I lived at Williams Reserve from August 2005 to August 2007. There were good and bad things about this complex.

Cons:
-Water/house centipedes (the review prior to mine attached a photo of these NASTY looking bugs)
-I lived on top/3rd floor in a 2 bdr, and someone below us or on the first floor smoked and we could smell it in our apartment
-My roomates car was broken into once, vandalized a second time, my car got keyed and a friend's car was broken into while living here. Management didn't express any empathy. The lighting is also very dim and some very sketchy kids were often hanging out on the grounds or in the parking lot. One kid (late teens/early 20's) lived at the complex and the cops were called on him once (to my knowledge). He made me very uncomfortable because he was always staring at me or other women
-Some of the lighting was broken/out on the paths leading to my building and you had to walk far from the parking lot to most of the buildings.
-In the summer of '07, we were without air conditioning for ONE MONTH because they were fixing all the roofing. No compensation was offered.
-Alot of kids were running around without parental supervision, fighting, throwing things into the ponds, etc.
-One of my neighbors would always throw their junk mail on the ground outside of the mailboxes.
-As far as the utilities; gas, water and trash was billed from the apartment complex and were calculated unfairly. Unfortunately they billed you based on the number of person(s) living in your apartment and how many square feet it was. It SHOULD have been based on the usage per apartment.
-$1.25 to wash and $1.25 to dry (this may be standard at any apartment complex though).

Pros:
-The grounds itself are very attractive, I had a good view of the pond/stream, trees, etc. and enjoyed the view.
-There were "resident appreciation days" which I thought were nice- they gave you breakfast, etc.
-The gym, pool, etc. was very nice and up to date. The gym was open pretty late at night.
-Most of my neighors were very nice and quiet. Of course I lived on the top floor so I don't know if that had to do with it.
-When maintenance was called, they always responded promptly. Our ceiling leaked and they fixed it/painted the next day.
-My apartment was constructed well, it was very nice and new looking on the inside, but I was told it was because that was one apartment that they had previously replaced the carpet in.
-My apartment had alot of space for a two bedroom.
-The washer/dryer were large, and there was a set on the 3rd/top floor and the 2nd floor, so that was conveinent if needed.
-Some of the staff were very friendly, but a couple were not (the manager wasn't too empathetic/understanding when our cars were vandalized multiple times)

Okay, here we go again. You have to understand why management didn't show too much expression to your car break ins. Guess what, as much as it suchs to hear, it is not managements responsibilty. That is rude people who do not care at all about anyone elses belongings, we unfortunately feel bad, but cannot express it due to company policy. It is not your fault, our fault or anything, the community I work at now has had car break ins for stupid people who keep their doors unlocked or GPS in view. Let's be real, in todays day and age you cannot be doing these things anymore.

We live here too. This review is spot on. Not the worst place I have ever lived ?????? there were two worse in college. However we are looking to move. For us, the negatives are beginning to outweigh the positives...

Responding to "imhalo4u"...I understand and understood the break-ins and vandalism were not managements fault. However, what was lacking was the amount of empathy that was expressed when 4 incidences happened over the course of 6 months. As a manager in basically a "customer service" position, how friendly you are to your tenants truly, truly matters. In addition, when my car was vandalized, nothing was inside my car. While there were many good things about my experience, unfortunately the location of the complex is not the greatest which I'm sure is what caused these incidences. AptRenter063, thanks for your agreement. If you truly are moving out and want a recommendation for a great apartment/complex in Palatine (I lived there after we moved out of Williams Reserve), please let me know. Thanks.
