We lived at Briarwood terrace for about 1.5 years before moving out. I have lived in apartment buildings all my life and could actually offer apartment counseling.
Anyways, first lets look at the pros:
1. The management is friendly to talk to. They hold all your packages and even let you know when you receive one so that you can go pick them up. If there are any problems, they usually act quickly upon it.
2. Building is well maintained. They replaced the hallway carpets while we lived there. The hallways are vacuumed on a daily basis (you would know if you stayed home all day).
3. You can put in your own dish/direct tv to watch whatever programming
4. Only 1 building is pet friendly and the people there were really nice. Almost all dogs were well behaved and were not terribly noisy.
5. Location wise, i enjoyed living here. There are shops within a 7-10 minute driving distance everywhere. The metra station is actually 8 blocks away and there is a gas station 2 minutes away.
6. The management made an effort by hosting a couple of parties and get togethers for the residents. They send out a newsletter every once in a while to inform residents of changes/updates etc.
7. Parking is free as is the case for most suburbs. The building is relatively secure..when i say relative i mean the doors are locked. Again, if someone wants to break-in, i am sure they would find the means to do so.
8. There are several laundry rooms on each floor so residents dont necessarily have to lug their clothes from one end of the building to another.

Now for the cons,

1. Initially when we moved in, heating and hot water were free. Now you have to pay for everything. It would be okay if it were pro-rated but that is not the case. The utilities company takes the total and divides it by no. of apartments and no. of residents per apartment. So if someone is a heavy user of water, everyone pays for it.
2. The fire alarms go off every other day. Not sure if this was just practice or there is a technical issue.
3. Most washers and dryers were broken on the weekends. We had to wait until monday or tuesday to do our laundry.
4. There is a tennis court but only a single one. The recreation center and gym are very small for such a large complex.

Apart from the above, we noticed that every time it rained or snowed, Wolf road became the busiest street in town. This may be because there are no other alternatives. So if you have an emergency, you may not be able to get out quickly.
There was a problem with some rats gnawing through the garbage chute and entering our apartment but the management fixed this immediately.

One more thing, i read the remarks made by other people about gypsy/hindu/------ etc etc. I must say i was surprised. All the people living there seemd awfully nice and i cannot belive that someone would say this. America is a great country and the biggest democracy in the world. Talking trash and insulting people from other cultures only serves to make us look like degenerate racists. This is how the US appears to the whole world and not only is such talk demeaning and degrading but it goes against the very sould of what this country is about.

ok, so you say.... There was a problem with some rats gnawing through the garbage chute and entering our apartment but the management fixed this immediately. You say there were rats getting into your apartment and rate the place pretty decent...unfortunately where I come from the words rat and decent don't belong together
