Full disclosure: This was my first apartment ever, so I wasn't a harsh critic back then.

I wasn't very optimistic about this apartment when I moved in, but I didn't have many choices -- I was in town for an internship, and I needed a short-term lease. The landlord was very flexible about this and other issues. (I paid rent late all the time ... he never said anything.)

I ended up really liking the apartment -- I had one of the larger ones, with a wall of tall windows that looked out on Church Street. It was small, but I didn't need space at that point. The doors were thick and sturdy. Nice view. Fairly quiet, considering its location.

The apartments have Murphy beds, and there is some furniture in them -- mostly thrift-shop stuff, but the landlord said he had more in storage and I could swap stuff out if there was anything I'd like better.

I didn't have a car, but almost everything I needed was nearby. The public library was about 3 blocks away; there was a little grocery 3 blocks in the other direction; and the main bus depot was a few blocks away as well. Downtown was close by, and there were lots of little coffee shops and such. The river was nearby too, with a walking trail.

The only bad things: There are no showers, just tubs. (This may have changed since then!) I had a roach problem when I was there. (Nothing a few traps wouldn't have taken care of, though.) The other tenants were a little sketchy, from what I saw of them. But I never felt unsafe.

If these apartments are as cheap now as they were then, this is an unbeatable value. Not luxurious by a long shot, but a lot of character. If you don't have much (money or stuff) and you don't need much, consider this building.
