Absolutely hated it

My husband had been living in an RHA property for at least two years before we met. After we got together, I was added to his lease and we lived there together for a little over a year... And I absolutely HATED it.

The manager on site was rude, snide, and treated the tenants like they were children. My intelligence was insulted every time I was forced to talk to her.

The maintenance on site was just as bad, if not worse. He was crude and picked on many residents. He made an inappropriate comment to me whenever he saw me, and was downright mean to my husband.

The inspections were ridiculously picky. The manager failed me on an inspection because I didn't clean the bathroom vent the way she wanted me to. Her specific instructions' To stand on the toilet, unscrew the vent from the wall, soak it in bleach overnight in the sink, scrub it with a wire brush, then once it dried overnight, stand on the toilet again to reattach it to the wall.

RHA required a certain number of inspections per year, but the manager sprung extra last minute inspections on the residents, giving them 24 hours to get their apartments up to her ridiculous standards. The water was turned off at least once a month for one reason or another. There were no vents over the stove, so the smoke detectors went off almost every time I used it. The windows barely closed properly. The closet doors were constantly going off the tracks. There was little to no storage in the apartment. The kitchen was miniscule, with two areas of counter space that were all of a square foot. There was absolutely no storage in the bathroom, the tiles were loose, and the walls had some sort of water markings on them. There was a one inch gap between the entry door and the floor, meaning all sorts of things could crawl into the apartment.

I never felt completely safe unless I was in the apartment with the door locked and the chain in place.

I would NEVER recommend RHA to anyone unless they were truly desperate to have a roof over their heads. Otherwise my advice would be to avoid them completely.

This sounds par for RHA. They like to discriminate in any way they can, white, black, ---, criminal, etc. Just to make life for everyone more difficult and them richer on Federal Funding.

Currently I work for a medical group in Rockford - something I have found pretty funny are all the pregnant patients that we have treated that live in Brewington Oaks. You know one of those places the Rockford Housing Authority has listed as a senior housing unit. So apparently in Rockford we have a bunch of seniors who also happen to want more kids. What a joke.
