Poor place to live (Part II)
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 6/21/2004
Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2002
I posted a review here a couple of months ago and wanted to leave another to cap off my thoughts as I've since left the apartments. None of my opinions have changed from my original post.
I called about the reoccurring mold problem one last time about 3 weeks before I was to move out, and no one ever came out to take care of it. I called with that much lead time just to be safe, but I ended up scrubbing the bathroom ceilings with bleach in order to superficially get rid of the mold that was most undoubtedly caused from a neglected water leak in the apartment above me. As irritated as I was at having to try to take care of that myself, I was not truly surprised.
A word of warning to anyone who decides, for whatever ill-advised, reckless reason, to rent an apartment with Chatham Hills, please make sure you take your time documenting all problems with anything in the apartment. There were some holes in the screen door that I found later that were there when I moved in. I hadn't written this down and now my old apartment has a brand new screen which I unwillingly purchased. I don't deny that it was my fault for not finding and making a note of this in the beginning, but just take special care to notice anything like this, down to the smallest things.
I was also charged for a fitness center pass key that became de-magnetized while in my possession. Anyone who has a credit card or anything else with electronic information stored and magnetically transferred knows that these things simply wear out with use and time. I find it simply asinine that you're given these keys, and when they invariably wear out you're charged $25. I realize that it's an unwritten rule that apartments in general never intend on giving anyone their full damage deposit back, but it's both pathetic and low to come up with silly little things that must be replaced or repaired that cost more than a silly little amount.
So, once again, these apartments are very poor places to live, indeed. The maintenance leaves much room for improvement and once they have you as a tenant, the customer service, so to speak, all but disappears. And it's rather presumptuous and ridiculous to think, and more so to say, that those who claim to have negative experiences are those who refuse to follow the rules and obey common courtesy. Not once did I have any complaints registered against me for noise or anything whatsoever. This is a rotten place to live for anyone. lGjq8RUBjvsZjkb5ueji
